He only played 50 games and 2 in the playoffs

I guess you were talking about the year before in Calgary

In my mind he should have been #1 on the "must re-sign" list.

I wish the Habs would re-sign him. Obviously it isn't happening and the Habs have decided to move in a different direction. On my list of worries about the off-season... this is near the top of the list.

Tanguay was more or less a rental for the Habs, so his loss probably won't have a huge effect compared to, say, the last five years, but he's a player they will miss dearly. They have no one on the roster who is like him as far as consistent 5-on-5 excellence.

The Habs have needed to improve their 5-on-5 play for years now, and losing Tanguay does NOT go in that direction.
Agreed on all counts.

The line I was replying to was about his injury situation sucking for "the last two years". His last year in Calgary would be relevant to that.

He's softer than Plekanec, and I didn't think that was possible.

Ginu: you coud still say:

Tanguay is done with the Habs too.

In other words, we don't care.

My bad he plays like he's not there.......
He did only play 50 games last year and he was really only any good (consistently)in the beginning of the season.

Sorry I'm not a fan of his....Any time he has been successful was a direct result of having guys like Forsberg Sakic Iginl ect.....He's not a guy that can carry a team. He's talented but I prefer the guys Gainey went out and got...Gomez Gionta Cammalleri are all much better players then Tanguay

You make an interesting point here...I recall him re-iterating this before the season started - basically saying that he is not a saviour, etc.

Tanguay is a good player though. Not soft but certainly not what you would call durable. Very creative player that would be even better if he shot more.

But he won't carry an offense by himself, probably only out of lack of self-confidence because the tools are there imo.

I would like to see him come back, but I really doubt that we could afford his salary even at a majoir discount
Still some RFA's to be signed first

That's a myth.

He had his best season playing on a line with Ian Laperriere and Brent MacLean.

Iginla had his best season with Tanguay on his line, not the other way around.

We're missing a Top 6 forward and Tanguay could fill in perfectly.

A second line with A.Kost and Pleks would look tremendously good!

EDIT: NVM, I just read that we have around 4,8 millions in cap space on Hockey Buzz.

But if Tanguay is willing to get a pay-cut for one year, we would become a serious contender

Tanguay is asking for way too much money. He thinks he should be making $5+ million a year even though his last 2 seasons were awful. He played well for the Habs last year, but he had both shoulders injured. He might not ever be healthy again so it would be a gamble to pay that much money for a guy who might only play 40 games next season.

Plus the Habs decided to take things in a different direction and sign players who are gritty and want to play hockey, not float around and not get hit.

I'd rather see Gainey re-sign Pleks, Dags and Stewart and start the season with the team we have now....and if we need to make a trade for a better 2nd line center or another top line winger, then make it through the season. I think we should give the players we have no a chance before we make anymore moves.

Yes, my sources are telling me this too. They're also telling me that Latendresse will be traded since he and the habs can't come together on a contract.

Whether he's soft or not, that's not great news. Tanguay is a PPG player or pretty damn close to it. And we all know how ex-Habs play against us.

It'd be great news if he signed out west.

Are you kidding? After all the bunk we had to hear about Burke signing only RUGGED MONSTARS and how Montreal is filled with soft, weak top-six guys, it would make for some hilarious backpedaling in Leafland.

From all indications he sounds like the perfect fit for Florida: playmaker, not injury prone (just some believe he is because he was with the Habs), great five on five player which FLA. really needs, coming off a down year so should not get more than 4.2 mil. a season.
