Kipper had nearly a 3.00 GAA. =\

He's slipped way too far, whereas Backstrom has been getting better and topped the year off with a Vezina nomination.

Im sticking with Kipper, i still think he is top 5 goalie in the league. Its just that Calgarys defense can sometimes suck so bad that he has to save the day all by himself and that doesnt work out very often.

And there are some games where Kipper completely ***** the bed. I do miss the Kipper of old though.

Well your confidence can go very low after 2 horrible seasons for the Flames defense.

Im expecting MUCH better season now, maybe Bouwmeester can bring some balance to the D.

Backs.

For me, he's top 3 goalie in league with Brodeur and Luongo.

Backstrom just had 3 seasons above .920 in a row (his first three career seasons) including one #1 and one top 4 season.

Kipper has only 2 seasons above .920 in his entire career.

Backstrom plays in Minnesota. That gets your stats up abit, thats for sure. He is great goalie and around top 5 in the league too, but you cant really compare Kipper and Backstrom with their stats because the teams are so different.

And the season Kipper had 92%, flames defense was actually good.

Since we are not comparing numbers but goaltenders, I would say that it is a lot closer than people make it out to be. However, I think it's reasonable to give the edge to Backstrom because of his consistency.

Right now it's Backstrom, but with the new Calgary defense, Kipper may have one of his best years

He is going to be a different goalie because of the defense? I have no problem at all with the assumption that he will be a better goaltender this season, but the reasoning needs to be different. If it's only the changes on defense for the Flames for you, then Kipper would be the better goaltender already since goaltending is not all about numbers...

No way that Bäckström is better than Lundqvist, so no top-3 but i'll gladly take him over Kipper

With Kennan gone I expect Kipper to bounce back to his old days.

But as for right now Backstrom, however I would bet dollars to dimes that if we have this topic next year most will vote for Kipper.

I've watched many Flames games in the last few years and i'll say Kiprusoff, even if Backstrom is Elite too. Kipper stats look bad, but it's a bit like Lethonen in Atlanta, their defense give up way too many quality scoring chances. How many times i have seen him give up 4-5 goals in games that he made like 5-6 incredible stops?

Not fair to Kipper. Backstrom plays a system preferable to a goaltender, and Kipper had to play (nearly) the entire season last year. I take Kiprusoff, personally, and not second guess my choice.
