If Saku did not stay I am not sure anyone will. Of the players right now, Markov has the best shot as he has been here the longest and seems to like being here. All depends on his performance until the end of this contract and what they Habs offer him at that time.
I'd like to say someone like Price, Tenderness or Lapierre but I think they are too young and I am just not convinced in today's NHL they will be around forever.
I guess we could have said that if he was a UFA next year but there's still plenty of time left for him to make this city alot more enjoyable for him... He's not going to spend the next 4 or 5 years before he's an UFA hating this city, the medias and their fans, I don't see it happening.
I don't start threads often, but this is a question I asked myself yesterday. With the new cap era, it'd be very unsual that a player remains on a team his whole career (unless it's a franchise player i.e: Crosby,Ovechkin,Malkin ect.)
For me it'd be Latendresse,Lapierre and Markov.
I don't think that we can "expect"... but we can wish!
PK Subban (his childhood dream was/is to play for the HABS...I'm hoping for nothing less than stardom for PK , absolutely love the fact that he is with our HABS...can't ******* wait to see him in a HABS' jersey, but I can be patient for his development )
Andrei Markov (doesn't he love Montreal and only Montreal?)
Carey Price (I'm hoping he stays for a long, long time...meaning he - with time - becomes that franchise goalie and the boo-birds fly far, far away because of the team's great success/results, thanks to Price, and he ends up falling in love with Mtl and wants to stay and also realizes that he has many, many loyal HAB fans)
Louis LeBlanc (to wear the CH is his childhood dream...let's hope he turns out to be a solid #2 or #1 center...we need to be patient though, 2 1/2 - 3 years from now? I absolutely love that he's a born competitor/winner from what I've read)
