So you wouldn't mind having Nylander for another three years at 5.5M right now?

Well, he's making $4.85. And only for two more years.

That being said, I still wouldn't want him right now.

I'd take him on re-entry waivers for $2.425, if Washington would prefer him off their team. Could even work out a side deal where we tossed them a mid-range prospect/spare roster forward for future considerations as a thank you.

I'm not sure Nylander could keep up with Gabby, but he would give us a proper playmaking center, who would no doubt help out the PP too. He instantly becomes the best passer on the team (if Zherdev is gone, and probably even if he stays). The chance of injury is fairly high, too... which would no doubt give Anisimov a cup of coffee or two.

I wouldnt have minded 2 seasons ago keeping that line intact. Dont want nylander on the team now, but that line was great together. good chemistry.

That is not the case. Thats how... Gomez was not a need for the Rangers. He was a "needs to go".

If Heatley hadn't requested a trade they may have been able to make a play for Spezza.

All joking aside, I think Gomez is perfect for the job. Gomez would also be a great fit on the Devils second line right now..... but......Sather way overpaid and took Gomez for a "ransom" salary... depriving (intentionally) the Devils of their second line center but also shooting himself in the foot (unintentionally) by now having to give up the "play making center" to afford the elite goal scorer in Gaborik.... Sather deserves getting stuck in this situation.

I think you are confused with the Drury that played for Buffalo. Not the one that played for the Rags. Drury was awful in the "clutch" playoffs the last 2 years. (1 pt and -5 against WSH, ouch) If we are critcizing Gomez for his play in NY then we should also with Drury. Both players were much better with their former teams. Maybe they will be better with different roles/teams this year. Time will tell.

Sundin seems like the obvious choice to me. He always wanted to play for the Rags and he is free. Gainey said he was negotiating with 5 teams for #1 centres in June so we can assume the Gomez deal likely had the lowest asking price. It will cost the Rags a fortune of young players to get a different #1 center unless a team gets desperate.
Hey, do you know that Drury played down the stretch and the playoffs with a broken hand? Also, he was not awful in the 07-08 playoffs. Drury is what he is. Defensively sound, good wrist shot, hard-working and very good hockey-sense. He is still the same guy as he has always been. He is just being paid 2 million too much per season...
