They should've kept the old rule where one had to be 20 years old to play in the AHL.

Why Byers? His potential is as a 4th liner. How does he belong in the top 20, much less top 10?

Agreed, if he wasn't Russian, Grachev could have gone in the late 1st round, similar to Wolski, though probably closer to the end of the round.

Because he's as close to a lock as there is in our prospect pool. I don't see him as the best prospect remaining but I sure can see how people can argue it. The only one whom I would question being ranked behind Byers of the players yet to be added would be Kundratek.

And when it comes down to it do you realize what the chances are of each individual prospect making it to the NHL? A lock for the bottom 6 could very well be more valuable than the outside chance of a guy like Chris Doyle or Carl Hagelin making it. I know it might be a shocking revelation but your 3rd and 4th lines are actually important, so prospects like Byers matter too.

A lock for the bottom six isn't valuable at all because how often do you see players that are never going to be more than bottom six players stay with a team for that long?

Sure they're important, and I'm not discounting how important it is to have depth amongst your system, but Byers has no business being ranked top 10 amongst our prospects, especially with how deep our system is right now.

Why would you want Grachev playing in the OHL again? He was a man amongst boys in that league last season. His development will go much faster with him in the AHL next year.

The rule still exists, but it has always applied only to players who played in Junior in their draft year. The intention was to keep the pros from stripping Junior teams of their players, who are mostly North American.

Since a player like Grachev would have the option of playing at home in Europe despite being under 20, he wouldn't be bound to his Junior team as a North American might. So the rule wouldn't really protect Junior teams if it applied to Europeans.

Complete the triumverate! McDonagh.

Guess who else still qualifies - Boyle. Former first rounder who's huge and can play - the only question is if his skating is good enough to move him above the fourth line. Add him.
