Voted Bourque...the kid is pretty much a lock to make the team or get traded to another NHL team this year. He's not playing in the AHL.

I'm curious why Gus is so far ahead of Johansson?

Probably because nobody has seen much of MJ at all. There were something like 3 highlights from the draft and that's it.

LOL I remember when he was drafted me and my bro were watching and were like who? and then i was like "ok here are some highlights"

1st HL- him skating in warmups of a game
2nd HL - standing by the bench during warmups
3rd HL - see 2nd HL

LOL

Size and a small measure of familiarity would be my guess. I went with Gustafsson myself and then would probably put Osala next.

As much as size isn't as big of a factor as it used to be, all things being equal I think most would prefer those that have it to those that don't. If Gustafsson can put it all together--which is likely going to require an extended period of health--he could be exactly the sort of big, smart, responsible two-way pivot that the organization has been thirsting for lately. Not that Johansson can't be a solid two-way center himself but he's not going to have the same size to his advantage. With Bourque, Orlov and Johansson their size isn't something that can't be overcome by being speedy, tenacious and stout for their size but it isn't going to be a plus. Again, not as big of a deal but still somewhat important when it comes to one-on-one battles.

Add Broda.

The REALLY weird part is that about a week ago I posted a poll asking for opinions on Gus vs MJ and Johansson won with a decent margin. Since that time, all that's happened is a development camp in which Gus, by all accounts, didn't do much to either impress or disappoint. The most notable thing that happened was that he cut his face and got a concussion. Yet now he's suddenly a better prospect?

That's what is odd. I can't find anything else, and I can vote on polls everywhere else on the boards.

Oh well, I don't mind too much. In my mind, I would vote for the prospect with the most potential, so Bourque would be lower on my list in comparison to guys like Orlov, Johansson, and Anton. Bourque may be closer to the NHL, but I see him topping out at this point as a 2nd line winger at best.

So, the poll is closed and it's a tie. What now?

A run-off is probably the best solution.

If so, I suggest Orlov be included, being that he was so close to the top 2.

I think we need to take top 3, maybe top 4 and repool. Its the american way. No victor without a mandate!

I say give Bourque 4 and start a new poll for 5.

Bourque.. so high?

Bourque's upside is that of a smaller Brooks Laich (if every last thing goes right), but more likely a poor man's Laich. Personally, I have higher hopes for the team's #4 prospect.

I agree with Randy because Gus hasn't showed nothing during the last two years that makes him top5 material. He hasn't put up good numbers in Elite leagues, he hasn't put up good numbers in international games etc.

In my Eyes even this summer's top pick should be higher in the list than Gustafsson.

Bourque's upside is 2nd liner most likely... as is Gustafsson's... as is Orlov's possibly (2nd pairing)... as is Osala's... etc.

The only guy that left that is probably all that likely to be a "top" guy in his position is Holtby, but then he's #3 on the depth chart. I guess Kugryshev might have top line wing potential (poor man's Alex Semin?), but I don't really know.

Regardless, such is the dangers of having a poll. It's not as if these rankings have any real meaning anyways.
