Holy new toy syndrome...

If Byers does not win this round I may lose what confidence remains in our ability to rank prospects.

I do not care who gets added, only that Byers deserves to be next.

If I see Byers as a decent third line player or excellent fourth line player, why is it so hard to believe I'd rank him 11 or 12, ahead of guys with much more upside? What do you project from Byers?

I went with Kundratek here. The guy was very good this past year and is the type of player that translates well to the NHL. He reminds me of Tyutin in many ways. Byers and Werek are also solid choices but I like Kundratek a lot.

Add Boyle

Right now Byers is ready to be a 4th line NHL player, with 3rd line upside. No one else on that list is close.

Right now I feel Werek projects as a solid 3rd liner.

Next year that may be different, Werek may blow up or just continue with steady improvement. Byers is ready for the show now.

I mentioned in the Werek draft thread that this kid reminds me of Graves, same game at this age, do all the little things, winners etc. etc. Gravey and Werek had nearly identical rookie numbers in the O. I like the kid alot, but Byers is a NHL player now.

JMHO.

Lets go Rangers!

EDIT: Gravey blew up for 100+ in his 2nd year, not saying Werek does that but...

Gotcha. At this point, I'm banking more on Werek's upside than Byers' readiness. Different strokes...

As far as the Graves/Werek comp, let's ****ing hope so!

For this reason I would have both Sauer and Byers ahead of Kreider. Kreider is a top 5 prospect easy on upside/potential, but until he shows it against higher calibre competition I would slot him behind them. After next season he could be top 2-3.

As far as Werek goes I hope he still reminds me of Gravey in about 4-5 yrs. But that is a long way off.

I think it will be a close call between Byers and Bourque, depending on what people prefer: high potential or how likely a prospect is to make the NHL. No doubt each side will think the other one is crazy.

Exactly
Raise a glass to high potential prospects with a high probability to make the NHL!
Doh...

Byers does not have any 3rd line upside at all. Hes a 4th liner at best, and he's hardly an "NHL Player" right now. He played 15 total games last year...did he become a NHL player while injured?

I'm gonna disagree with you here. In 07-08 he potted 23 goals in the A. Last year after his injury he was probably the best player besides AA. In the playoffs he was a monster before the yearly Hartford choke. He can probably be a 15-20 goal scorer in the NHL. Brings size, grit and has a pretty good scoring touch. I wouldn't sleep on Byers.

While I disagree, you may be right. Hopefully we will find out this year.

He was good enough to play out of camp last year. He started the year strong and finished the year strong.

To say he is hardly a NHL player I find hard to believe. I'm not saying he will be more than a 4th liner but he is ready to play now.

A couple things. To me Kreider has not only huge potential but should be a safe pick even if he falls way short of that potential because of his size and skating.

Byers first two years in the AHL were about over achieving expectations. I think 3rd line NHL'er is still achievable for him.

at this point it has to be Werek, but you should all be looking at Nigel Williams too...he's no pushover.

Maybe. I've read some positive things about him but also some very, very negative things. Seeing as I've never watched him play, I can only go on what I've read and I'm not sold.
