Rangers Prospect #11

Ethan Werek won the last round. Corey Potter was voted to be added. This one should be very close, as will the next few rounds.

We now have our top 10! I would say that this our strongest top 10 in nearly 20 years.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. Artem Anisimov
2. Evgeny Grachev
3. Michael Del Zotto
4. Bobby Sanguinetti
5. Ryan McDonagh
6. Derek Stepan
7. Matt Gilroy
8. Chris Kreider
9. Michael Sauer
10. Ethan Werek

Kund or Bourque

Not a fan of NHL ready 4th liners. Easily replaced on the UFA market every year.

Bourque, to me because Byers is a 4th liner and under Tortorella they are generally unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

Add Kveton. (Guy who scored more goals than Straka needs to be recognized, he has more upside than anyone else here)

Yay, lets sign 4th line UFA's when we can fill those roster spots for half the $$'s from within the organization.
Now thats cap management.

Personally I'm not as high on Kundratek as a lot of other people. Maybe my problem is I read Prospect Park too much. Anyone who does knows they track prospects from the start of the season to the end. It's not like they didn't think he had a good year but they thought it could have been a lot better than it was--that he had periods of inconsistency. One area he lagged in--was in offensive production. One can point out I'm sure that he was in a new country and probably needed some acclimation. Anyway he would be down on my list a little bit further.

I'm going with Byers. If Dane doesn't make it out of training camp I think we're going to be seeing a bit of him this year. Add Valentenko.

Kundratek, add Zaborsky.

It was reported in another thread that Kveton wasn't even planning on coming over for our training camp, let alone competing for a spot on the team. The guy is not coming stateside.

kundratek, add boyle...

considering you can say that 6 out of the top 10 are already challening this camp for roster spots, i would say we have a very nice top ten.

At this point I'm finally ready to add Byers. Those who are calling him a foregone conclusion as a 4th liner are selling him short. I agree that in no scenario could he ever project to have 1st line upside, but he definitely could prove to be an effective 3rd liner, with like a 2% chance of maybe even reaching 2nd line status. All he's ever done since we drafted him is surprise.

I will take him over someone like Bourque who has great skills... which will be meaningless if mother nature doesn't gift him with 2-3 more inches and 30 pounds. (Did you see the pictures of him at the draft? His dad - never known to be a giant - absolutely towered over him.) Don't get me wrong, I hope that Bourque has that growth spurt, but until he does, I rank him below Dane.

For the love of all that's holy, add Boyle!

Well I don;t think that s the argument. I think the argument is that it saves more to develop a top 6 winger than a bottom 6 winger, and therefore has more cap value/

That is not what was said.

We all want to develop top end talent.

I think it saves more to develop anyone, be it a franchise center, top six winger, or bottom six PK'er.

EDIT: On another note, this group does look strong and promising. Most of us can agree on that.

Time will tell.

Lets go Rangers!

That's my worry with Ryan as well. I really would like to see how well he does in the Q this year before really putting him up high. It seems he shares many of the same attributes (lack of size, lots of speed and skill though) as his brother Chris who is having a difficult time making it to the NHL.

The thing with Boyle is--he falls into a gray area of whether or not to consider him a prospect? I think I'd still rate him behind Valentenko but as soon as Pavel makes it I'll switch to Boyle if he's still there.
