Who do you think will perform better this upcoming season, points only: Morrison or Nylander? I will likely be keeping one and dropping the other. thanks.

Morrison, but with a couple of caveats: if he's not healthy he's not likely to stick in that role (seems as if the Caps believe he is healthy, but you never know), and IF Nylander gets regular playing time it probably means he's shown something big to the coaches to rectify whatever situation there is, and then all bets are off as to who gets the prime minutes and who gets the points.

But the general assumption is that Nylander's chances to take a scoring role are through, and so Morrison is naturally expected to outproduce him.

Thanks for the input. So would it be fair to say with this Morrison signing that they hope for Morrison to take the 2nd line C spot? That the team would prefer him there (or Nylander if he shows up with a new attitude, etc.) so that Laich can play 3rd line C?

I wouldn't make any assumptions about where Laich is going to play. He has proven to be a competent second line winger, and IIRC he didn't play much center last year. He could be on almost any line, and I'd be willing to bet he ends up with similar point production to last year.

Very tough to say for Laich. It seems like they might start off with Steckel at 3C, Laich at 3LW. But if they want to move Bourque up off the 4th line they almost have to put Laich at 3C and move Steckel to 4LW/C. Or they could put Laich at 2LW and move Fleischmann down somewhere.

Chances are all of those things will happen at some point. But the assumption is definitely that Morrison was brought in to be a top-2 C.

As for points, I'd expect Laich's to drop a bit since Knuble will be taking some of his role (in front of the net on the PP), but then it depends on how Fleischmann does I imagine (complementary 2nd line scoring) as you may end up seeing them swap roles.

Sooo many questions to be answered in camp. Best we can do is guess on what's most likely, and even for that it's tough to agree on too much.
