I googled Kellan Tochkin and found a bit of more information about him:
Kellan is also of the smaller crowd, i played with him my whole life most recently 2 years ago as he led the Major Midget league in scoring as a first year. In and out he played with us and the Everett Silvertips, this being his first full year with the club, after last year lighting up the PIJHL with the ridge meadows flames of JR.B(my current team) while contributing in the playoffs for the Junior A Langley Chiefs helping lead them to the finals along side Derek Grant (Senators draft choice). Immediately he's made an impact for the Tips, and is one of their leading scorers, to go with being number 1 in rookie scoring in the dub. If he's overlooked past the 3rd id take him in a heartbeat.
Pros of Kellan:
Sick hands, capable of anything
Unreal hockey sense, can read opponents like a book
often creates turnovers
beauty playmaker (especially on the PP or odd man rush)
Shy's away from dishing hits
constant beak show (funny though hah)
He's not slow, hes not afraid, he just shys away from open ice body and will rub a guy out rather than make a big hit. He's got average speed (by no means slow) but his hands and hockey sense make up for it, he's incredibly agile and evasive side to side which makes his "avg speed" work against those who are faster. He's like Kyle Wellwood but he's got a sick shot, better dangles, and a smoother skater. Similar flare though. He'd be a good 4th and up pick IMO. You guys are right tho that he wont go early, but i think he'll for sure atleast be a late rounder.
Tochkin is better than a dime a dozen, he's a prolific scorer wherever he plays, he has something alot of guys twice his size dont have, and thats the scoring touch which he'll never lose. No matter who hes up against he'll find a way to make them look stupid with video game like puck handling (puck on a string). Im not by any means comparing him to St.Louis though, im just saying he could very well be a good NHL player one day, he's still growing, and is one of the most skilled players to come out of abby, next to maybe Geordie Wudrick, Derek Grant, or Ryan Craig.
He's leading the league in rookie scoring VK not just his team. And he's not an overager, its only his 2nd year of WHL eligibility (he just turned 18). Was formally drafted to the dub 13th overall. As for the Tips being good, they havent been this season, theyre 26-33 and have been without Beach for half of it. (Tochkin avg's more points per game than him) and he was obviously drafted 11th overall last year.
The Tochkin contract doesn't count against the 50 contract limit unless he plays pro (which he won't this season). Currently the Canucks have 36 players (excluding Tochkin) under contract plus 3 more players (Hansen, McIver and Wellwood) as RFAs.
