I don't know how you can say that as we have the least quality to give. Andrei Kostitsyn is far from Heatley, Thornton or Marleau just to name a few. If they need us to complete the deal, it may just work in our favour.

I was looking at the Sharks' line-up and there are 4 players that I'd really want here:

Devin Setoguchi ($1.247M) - 146 hits
Ryane Clowe ($3.625M) - 135 hits
Marc-Edouard Vlasic ($3.1M)
Christian Ehrhoff ($3.1M)

Something tells me that if a deal is to be done, Hamrlik's $5.5M would have to be cleared somewhere else and that's where the Dallas rumours could be interesting.

I would'nt mind Michalek instead of Andrei Kostitsyn.

In my crystal ball I saw:

To Montreal:
Joe Pavelski
Jamie McGinn

To Ottawa:
Jonathan Cheechoo
Tomas Plekanec
Christian Ehrhoff
San Jose 2nd round pick 2010

To San Jose:
Dany Heatley
Mathieu Carle
Ilya Zubov

This comes from Bruce Garrioch right?

Let's just say I'm not convinced and unimpressed.

the 4 players you name are great acquisition but I doubt one of them will end up here. If we have Vlasic or Ehrhoff to replace Hamrlik we are clear winner.

But I don't want to end up with Cheechoo and a first and give Kostitsyn to Ottawa.

IMO opinion SJ don't have to give young talent to land Heatley and I hope the Habs will not be the 3rd team who will take their crap.

Ryan Clowe would be great, cause we could sign him long terme and not **** our cap space, while we wouldn't need to give away too much to get him. Maybe the Sens are high on Plec or something and they wanted the Shark to include him in a package.

Clowe just signed a 4 year 14 million dollar deal. He's going nowhere.

We're right against the cap and already changed half the team. I don't see Bob making a big move at all, especially to help the Sens unload Heatley.

If he can get them Heatley, he'd be going wherever they want him to go.

What about...

To OTT:

MTL First round pick 2010
SJS First Round Pick 2010
Andrei Kostitsyn (3.250)
Tomas Plekanec (2.750)

To SJS:

Dany Heatley (7.500)

To MTL:

Patrick Marleau (6.300)
Christian Erhoff (3.100)

Ottawa takes on a net of -1.500 million, enough to get them under the cap. I don't know if it makes them "better" but it doesn' make them too much worse and beggars can't be choosers.

San Jose takes a net of -1.900 million, keeps them well below the cap and they get a HOF sniper to play with Thornton.

Montreal has 3.226 million of cap space right now, with the trades Montrwal takes on a net of 3.400 million, so it puts us over the cap, unless we waive Metropolit AND/OR put Laraque on LTIR. With those moves it'd be fine and a Marleau/Gomez 1/2 would be sweet.

It would end up being something like Thornton / Marleau for Andre Kostitsyn, then them packaging Kostitsyn to land Heatley.

If you read the actual TSN article, they would need to acquire our assets to get the job done. There is no reason for us to trade Andre unless we get a very good return.

They are quoting the Ottawa Sun, the less reliable media there ever was.

There's no reason to help a divisional rival unload its cancer unless we're getting a really sweet deal out of it.

From a Habs perspective, a first, A Kost, Pleks seems alot for Marleau (isn't he a UFA after the season) and Erhoff.

It's certainly moved past the point of Eklund and some blog.

They just traded for Leclaire last year, they don't need Nabokov.

Maybe Ottawa wants to recreate the Akost - Plec - Kovy line, they could easily get it done if their trading money is Heatley.

Just for fun, keeping in mind that all 3 teams are right against the cap so it has to work that way as well:

To San Jose:
  • Dany Heatley ($7.5M)
  • Jason Smith ($2.6M)

To Ottawa:
  • Andrei Kostitsyn ($3.25M)
  • Sergei Kostitsyn ($0.817M)
  • Christian Ehrhoff ($3.1M)
  • Jonathan Cheechoo ($3.0M)
  • San Jose's first round pick

To Montreal:
  • Ryane Clowe ($3.625M)
  • Ottawa's second round pick

San Jose's net cap hit: + $0.375M

Ottawa's net cap hit: + $0.067M

Montreal's net cap hit: - $0.442M

Flame away!

Well, our top six IMO should then be Markov, Hamrlik, Spacek, Erhoff, Mara, Gill. That's a very good top six IMO. Gorges can be seventh defenceman, or be waived if it comes to that. Someone would definitely grab him and even though it'd hurt to lose such a good player, we'd be off the hook for his salary.

I think our complete fail of a season last year correlates with the departure of Streit a LOT more than people realize. With Markov, Spacek, and Erhoff we would have some of the best puck movement from the back end in the league, and that's what guys like Cammalleri, Gomez, and Gionta are gonna need to use their speed.
