Did the Habs just traded their two best young forwards for a third liner and a second round pick? I mean would you be angry about this or you would be content? Is that what you wish for or you're just thinking it might end that way? Because even if you hate the Europeans, maybe you'd like to even up the trade, no?

If I'm Ottawa I do this deal in a heartbeat. If I'm BG, I find another line of work.

Ottawa's just unloaded a huge problem thanks to Montreal and yet manages to simultaneously completely replenish holes in their roster and we only end up with Clowe...

Leclaire doesn't have a question mark over his head and he's a legitimate number one goalie, they have absolutly no need for antoher number one goalie, especialy with the salary of Nabokov. Unless they realy want to go all in and have a awesome duo.

A third liner? Really? Man, I wish our third liners produced like he does! He had more points than some of our top 6 last year!
Heck, look at his scouting report if you don't believe me!

I'd like to see something like:

To San Jose
Dany Heatley
Chris Kelly

To Ottawa
Tomas Plekanec
Roman Hamrlik
Jonathan Cheechoo

To Montreal
Patrick Marleau
Jason Smith

He's getting paid almost $4 million a year, Leclaire isn't getting paid that to sit on the bench. Elliott is also a decent goalie, they have no need for Nabokov.

As long as we don't trade the Kostitsyns, or Hamrlik, I'd be curious to see what happens. I say this knowing that Markov, and Price won't be moved.

Meh, giving up our 1st for a UFA is not too appealing.

AND Hamrlik and Plekanec...

Some people don't realize how big of a hole our defense would have if Hamrlik were dealt.

didn't know Leclaire was paid 4 millions, Nabo don't make sense for them but I still think Leclaire have question mark over his head

Updated. We'd take on Jason Smiths salry and he'd be a 1 year stopgap until our youngsters are ready. IMO Mara can do everything Hamrlik does...

i agree..people trade away hamrlik way too easily...we need this type of d-man of his calibre...i dont care about his salary at this point unless he is in the way of getting a superstar....

Marleau isn't involved in this rumor and never was. All proposals I've read so far in this thread are just silly in some way. IMHO there's very little chance that Montreal can participate in a 3-way trade with 2 teams that are already near the cap and get a sweet deal.

Lets trade all of our drafted players!! They are not good enough for us, lets get them free and score 30-40 goals elsewhere.

Its one thing to bring all the north american gritty players but we need talent aswell.. Trading A. Kostitsyn would be a huge mistake. Can we just keep our talented player that is still developping for once?

To SJS:

Dany Heatley (7.500)

To MTL:

Patrick Marleau (6.300)
Christian Erhoff (3.100)

Ottawa takes on a net of -1.500 million, enough to get them under the cap. I don't know if it makes them "better" but it doesn' make them too much worse and beggars can't be choosers.

San Jose takes a net of -1.900 million, keeps them well below the cap and they get a HOF sniper to play with Thornton.

Montreal has 3.226 million of cap space right now, with the trades Montrwal takes on a net of 3.400 million, so it puts us over the cap, unless we waive Metropolit AND/OR put Laraque on LTIR. With those moves it'd be fine and a Marleau/Gomez 1/2 would be sweet.
Unbelievable deal for Ottawa and great deal for SJ. Heatley is Ottawa's problem, and any Ott problem is good for us. We want Marleau but I don't see Ehrhoff as someone BG would target for the team.... Pass

No he can't. Hamrlik carries his pairing and is generally paired with the biggest defensive liability because he can cover others mistakes. Mara is just a bottom pairing guy.

  • Christian Ehrhoff ($3.1M)
  • Jonathan Cheechoo ($3.0M)

To Montreal:
  • Ryane Clowe ($3.625M)
  • San Jose's first round pick

San Jose's net cap hit: + $0.375M

Ottawa's net cap hit: + $0.067M

Montreal's net cap hit: - $0.442M

But since Ottawa is getting a lot in return, you're right that perhaps, we should be getting San Jose's first round pick and not the Sens. Point take on that aspect.
I'm high on Clowe, on july first i wanted him on the Habs before he signed with san-Jose but he's not worth Ak, his value is SK, but SK isn't at highest value right now.

EDIT but if we end up with overpaying for Clowe somehow, i guess i would get over it.

Are you sincerely trying to convince me that the Kostitsyn brothers aren't worth Clowe and a first?

I dont think anybody on this boards would ever try to convince you of anything. I'm saying that Ak is worth more than Clowe and SK more than a 1st.

Like i said if we end up with Clowe i'd get over the overpayment, if it doesn't include AK.
