Sure they can; They would just have to ship more than Kessel by himself.

Since this came from a seasoned hockey columnist who would know better (and not some fan) who specifically put the term in quote marks:
Quote:
"The Bruins, we're told by a well-placed informant, are talking with "two West Coast" clubs about a deal for unsigned Group II winger Phil Kessel. B's are allegedly seeking a young roster player, a prospect and a first-rounder."

They wouldn't want to ship the following: Bergeron, Savard, Krejci, Chara, Wideman, Morris, Thomas

Shipping the following doesn't free up significant room: Rask, Wheeler, Stuart, Lucic, Sobotka, Bitz, Hunwick, Recchi,

They can't ship the following off due to a NTC that the player said he WILL NOT WAIVE: Marco Sturm

That leaves: Ryder, Kobasew and Ferrence

Could we trade Kessel AND Ryder for something? Possibly, but now you are taking the top 2 goal scorers off the team who both play RW. Now we'd need to get a Legit top line RW back. And we'd need to get back something else that is valuable (top d prospect, high pick).

And we have to find a team that can take the 8m in salary that Boston is sending and only send us back 4. Find me a good deal that fits those parameters and I'll let you know what I think.

Ryder isn't being traded any time soon.

Yeah loan us $2m of salary cap space as well and you have a deal.

Ryder + Ferrence = 5.4m
Heatley = 7.5 m

Boston does not have 2.1 million in room. We might have 1.5 million if we wanted to spend right up to our cap and play with 20 guys on the roster if someone gets hurt, and with no flexibility at all during the season. But I don't see that happening.

You can 110% rule out Anaheim. While Kessel would be a great replacement for the (assumed) retiring Selanne, the Ducks are pretty set for this season as well as under an internal budget.

Unless the B's wanted Lupul back, which wouldn't make any sense for them at his price tag, there is definitely no Kessel to Ducks deal to be made.

You can't just drop a nugget like that without giving a source. Where are you getting this information from? Is it reliable?

Ahh, alright I got it. I guess I was just slow on the uptake. In fairness though, I didn't read the "Dallas and Nashville come to mind" part at first.

My guess is the two teams are the Kings and Oilers. If this is true at all.
