1) Zherdev will never wear a Kings' uniform as long as Dean Lombardi is GM.

2) Frolov has ALWAYS had a good attitude, and is not comparable to Zherdev in this regard.

I liked Avery still do, however there is no way you can compare the 2 skill wise. Zherdev could bust 30 this year with Fro and Kopi, More ought than naught you are going to get attitude with talented kids, If the scoring is there 25 to 30 goals ya Id like to get him. How about this, if Avery could score 30 or potentially would you have him back?

I really don't see a down side to going for Zherdev. I would be much more excited about Zherdev being on this team than Smyth.
The red flags are there. Columbus was 30th in scoring in 2007-08 and decided they didn't need Zherdev any more. The Rangers were tied for 25th in scoring last year and are walking away from Zherdev. Sure, part of it has to do with each of those teams adding guys like Huselius and Gaborik. But you have to wonder why two teams seemingly starving for offense would jettison Zherdev in consecutive offseasons.

DL and company seem to be pretty careful in terms of which personalities they're adding to the locker room. I'm not sure if Zherdev would fit that equation.

Certainly depends on the contract that Zherdev wants. I'm sure a handful of teams will see if they can get him on the cheap as well.

Well, according to people that actually work for the Kings (coaches, management) and not just fans who post on message boards, your statement is very far from being correct....

Zherdev's reputation is that of a snotty little turd who only plays when he feels like it.

Frolov's reputation is of a good natured and very talented player who just doesn't seem to have the drive that other top athletes have.

The comparison between is loose, at best. There is a big difference between them that you aren't seeing. That difference is that of a player who just seems to never tap in to his potential for unknown reasons and a player who just doesn't give a **** at times.

I'm no expert on Zherdev, but I've never heard his lack of compete every night be referred to as enigmatic. From everything I have read, Frolov is an enigma and Zherdev is a *****.

A 24 top RW/LW who has put up 61 and 58 points in the last 2 years. These numbers warrant a deal in the range of 3-4 million. DL is definetly thinking about this, but at the end it will come down to character. This is very tempting.

Look at this way guys...

Zherdev >>>> Moller/Purcell

We'll see how it goes. Buffalo walked away from J.P. Dumont's one year, 2.9 mil arbitration ruling a few years back. A little while later, Nashville signed him for 2 years, 4.5 million. Imagine you could see something similar with Zherdev.

We can't get him below 3.9 probably, and we can't get anyone with a 3.5 or higher contract past this year.

Perhaps a 1 year 4 mil contract? Then again I would rather have Tanguay

The arbitration process favors production. If you wanted to make more money at your job, and maybe had to tick a couple of people off so you could produce more...wouldn't you?

If he only scores 13 goals but is a better 2-way player...maybe he only gets a 2 million settlement.

I think alot of people, not just athletes, look out for themselves this way.

Might as well bring Chistov back to the NHL.

Zherdev has a superstar skill set but he's selfish and greedy. Do not want! I'd rather DL go after a defenseman to help the PP.

If somebody was willing to pay that much for Zherdev on a one year deal, I think the Rangers would have accepted the arbitration ruling and dealt him for an asset. The Ducks did this with Vitali Vishnevski in 2006.

I guess you could argue that a 1 year, 4 mil contract is slightly different than trading a 4th round pick to assume a 1 year, 3.9 mil deal. But I think the point remains that all 30 teams didn't think it was worth it to trade for one year of Zherdev at 3.9 mil.

I think he finds a taker in the 2 year, 6 mil range eventually.

Hit the nail on the head. He disappeared in the playoffs last year.

He also has 1A in 6 WJC games and 1A in 3 WC games. He doesn't look like the kind of guy who steps it up when the pressures on.

I'm pretty sure Tanguay is going to have to lower his demands or else he's Russia bound. I bet he signs for less than 4 million unless some team gets really desperate.

BTW, has anyone heard anything about him?

It would be great to sign Zherdev, Tanguay, or Lang. It would really improve our scoring and add depth.

I agree. I think we are one proven point getter away from becoming a true playoff contender. That's why I think Zherdev would be a good signing. Sure it's nice to let the kids play and get experience etc, but I'd rather watch the Kings in the playoffs for once...
