Get me Tanguay to replace Zherdev's production.

Tanguay-Dubinsky-Gaborik
Higgins-Drury-Kotalik
Avery-Anisimov-Callahan
Brashear-Boyle-Lisin

Staal-Girardi
Rozsival-Gilroy
Redden-Potter

Lundqvist
Valliquette

This is what I want to see at this point.

The sky is falling!

Oddly enough, the team I built 2 weeks ago is exactly the same built by posters through votes, at least the forwards. I think I spend too much time around here.

Higgins - Dubinsky - Gaborik
Avery - Drury - Callahan
Kotalik - Anisimov - Lisin
Byers - Boyle - Brashear

EDIT: Forgot the D...

Rozsival-Sauer/Potter/Heikkinen
Staal-Girardi
Redden-Gilroy

Lundqvist
Valiquette

Can someone please try to explain the logic to me of not putting kotalik with drury, I think that the idea of replacing zherdev's production with kotalik is only remotely plausible if you pair him with drury and expect a bump in both their numbers in attempt to rekindle past success.

and the notion of putting gabby with drury (who has almost no playmaking ability) instead of dubi who is faster, a better playmaker already, with the potential to be a top 6 level playmaker

Huh, personally I have never considered that Kotalik was there to replace Zherdev... I'm a bit confused actually on the left wing, and each of the one I placed there on the first three lines could replace one of the others. I'm still considering Avery as a potential 20+ scorer, he got the speed and the shot and I'm not sure he will reach that mark one day on the third line...

Drury is a much better skater than Dubinsky. Gaborik's game is all about speed. IMO, Dubinsky wouldn't be ideal for Gaborik because he isn't a very fluid skater. Dury, though, perfectly compliments Gabby. His last season in Buffalo showed how he can produce with talent around him. And why should Kotalik have to play with Drury? Basing lines on past success, on a different team especially, isn't very good logic.

The thing I like about the forward lines is that they actually have a couple players on the 4th line who can step up and play on the higher lines if need be. I really believe Boyle will be moved up from the 4th line before the end of the season.
Yes. Me too.
It really is going to come down to Chemistry. What players play well with others and what not.
this year we have a lot of players who can play 1st, 2nd or 3rd line duties and chemistry is the only thing thats going to determine where you play.

(Except Gabi, guaranteed top line)

In case we all forgot, we've been polling the lines for about 2 weeks now...

Which really wasn't that good of an idea to begin with, IMO. Thus why I've never voted or even looked at any of those threads. But that's just me.

Higgins-Dubinsky-Gaborik
Lisin-Drury-Kotalik
Avery-Anisimov-Callahan
Byers-Boyle-Brashear

Staal-Girardi
Roszival-Redden
Gilroy-Sauer

Yeah, the 2nd line looks weird and a little below average, but the third line is above average, to me... so it evens out. Course, this is all optimistic that Lisin scores at the same pace he did last year and Anisimov actually makes the team...

I agree with the stuff about games 3 and 4. But in that game 7, he was literally THE best player on the ice, hands down. He dominated.

I would love to see more of that from him.

Callahan-Dubinsky-Gaborik
Higgins-Drury-Kotalik
Avery-Anisimov-Lisin
Byers-Boyle-Brashear

Staal-Girardi
Gilroy-Rozsival
Redden-Sauer

Lundqvist
Valiquette

Extras: Voros, Potter

Sign Dubinsky 1 yr, 1.8 M (re-sign next Jan LT)

Possible add: MA Bergeron for 1.5 M. Use as a 7th D who can play PP. He can't play every night but would fill a void.

Best case scenario: Grachev just misses the cut and starts with Hfd and forces his way up by January.

Rangers should be able to go into the season with a 23 man roster. We should have enough money to add one more player if we wish. It's not going to be Tanguay. Most likely it will be a d-man. I'd be more inclined to try to sign Schneider if he'll come cheap enough if I'm figuing on either Del Zotto or Sanguinetti making the team. Otherwise I'd be more inclined to look at someone like Seidenberg or maybe Bergeron.

Forwards who will make the team:

Gaborik, Drury, Dubinsky, Callahan, Higgins, Avery, Kotalik, Anisimov, Boyle, Brashear.

Competing for the other 4 jobs--Lisin, Arnason, Byers, Grachev, Voros, Owens, Dupont--possibly Crowder or Ambuhl (I don't have much of a read on either but the NHL part of their contracts are both pretty large).

Defense:

Staal, Girardi, Redden, Rozsival + maybe another free agent.

Competing for the other 2 or 3 jobs--Gilroy, MDZ, Heikkinen, Potter, Sanguinetti, Sauer.

Goal--Lundqvist and Valiquette.

Should be two rookies on defense--though at least one of them will be 25 and at least two rookies at forward including Anisimov.

Higgins-Dubinsky-Gaborik
Kotalik-Drury-Callahan (his natural position)
Lisin-Anisimov-Avery
Byers-Boyle-Brashear

Staal-Girardi
Gilroy-Roszival
Redden-Sauer/Potter/Heikennen/Del Zotto/Sangs

Whoever impresses the most in camp/pre-season gets the last D spot.

After looking at the roster with all the lines sorted, it looks like a team with boom or bust potential.

I doubt any of our line ups will stay the same, because now we have some cap room.

Tough to say right now with so many players I've never seen play regularly in the new lineup. However, I am glad to see the backs of Naslund, Gomez, and Zherdev who never delivered on their promise in NY. I'm also going to miss the old 4th line but it might be entertaining to have Brashear try and impress the MSG crowd by going nuts, something Orr was too much of a gentleman to ever do.

We know Team 1 simply wasn't good enough. Who knows how Team 2 will ultimately do but at least we got large scale change.
