The one guy I'd love to see in a leaf uniform is Eric Staal. He's a monster, and can do everything. I just don't think he's available.

If its down to one player I'd love to have on this team other than the usual suspects (Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin), then its definitely Ilya Kovalchuk.

I know burkie said were weren't in it but does anybody else feel a litte dissapointed we at least didn't kick tires for Dany Heatley before the 4mil bonus was paid i don't think you would have gotten a 50 goal man cheaper

No point in even trying. Ottawa will never trade him to Toronto.

I'm not sure but I think I read somewhere that ATL offered him multi year contract for 11+ million a year?

I just think its better to just go for another bad season and try to draft a franchise player. Next year we can look at the UFA market and address our needs.
I think we can safely eliminate that possibility. Burke has shown that he's taking the same route that Ferguson did. He added plenty of vets to the team, and has gone after high-profile free agent forwards(but didn't get them) in an attempt to make the team better in the short term.

If there's any chance to land Savard you can bet your last dollar Burke will be all over it.

In fact, the forward that could make the most difference would be a true #1 centre, and Savard is the only one who looks realistically attainable anytime soon. Probably won't happen for a while though.

Marc Savard.

He'll demand quite a bit on the open market, but if the cap goes down there may not be many teams able to fit him in.

ya, it does look that way. But if we get him we have probably 5 top 6 forwards 25 or younger and most of the forward corps should be young in around 2 years time. The defencemen however has to get younger over time.

Jordan Staal. Wouldn't cost as much as others but he has loads of potential and is great defensively.

1. Marc Savard
2. Vincent Lecavalier
3. Jason Spezza but really he might.
4. Alex Semin
5. Patrick Marleau

that's aside from people who are probably not available.

Hagman-Stajan-Stempniak
Ponikarovsky-Grabovski-Kulemin
Tlusty-Mitchell-Blake
Mayers-Primeau-Orr
Wallin

The key is that you must keep in mind our depth chart and not include players who would need an accompanying trade to be effective (e.g. Kessel wouldn't be a good fit without a playmaking centre).

My Reccomendation: The most bang for our buck would come from moving Stajan to 3rd line from first. The guy that I think could be had for the right price would be Patrice Bergeron; and if he can regain his form, he should be able to get better production out of a guy like Lee Stempniak.
Why is Blake a third liner? Does he not make like 5mill a year? It bothers me to see what has become of this franchise.

Why does being penciled in on the third scoring line make people think he's a third line player for us?

Last year we had 3 scoring lines and balanced ice time to all of them.

Me too. Burke hasn't been super impressive so far, but he and Wilson are as solid a tandem as we've had in quite some time.

Here ya go Fried I'm not quite sure how they go about doing it but this is the difference maker......next year's line-up....Frolik would need to be acquired from Florida

Tlusty - Kadri - Frolik

Hagman - Grabovski - Kulemin

Stalberg - Bozak - Stefanovich

Orr - Mitchell - ?

It was to think of potential trade possibilities to help us be a better team this year. It got hi-jacked by the likes of Ilya Kovalchuk.

First choice would be Phil Kessel, the guy has elite speed, hands, and a howitzer of a wrist shot. He will consistently be a 35+ goal scorer in this league for years to come. However, the price of Kaberle plus our 1st round pick this year was too steep. If a deal came at the right price, I would be ecstatic with the acquisition.

The back-up plan would be to trade for Patrick Sharp to make our forward group more competitive and give the team a quality, but not elite, goal scorer. Sharp is responsibly defensively, good at face-offs, has great speed and tons of heart. He would be an ideal pick-up for this year and future ones, as he would be a great complement player to someone we could pick up in FA like Savard or Kovalchuk.

I think a player like Savard could put us over the top. He makes everyone around him better. The fact that he wasn't even sent an invite to Team Canada shows how underrated this guy is.
