"Riopel deserves a chance to play in the AHL. We're going to really miss him. He was the best player in our league last season for my money." - Moncton Head Coach Danny Flynn.
I think we have Backlund, Riopel, Boucher, Teslak, Duchesne.
Backlund or Boucher will split time with Emery, I guess.
So Riopel will split time with the odd man out and Teslak and Duschesne will be in the ECHL?
That's just my guess, though. Take it for what it's worth, I'm not that into the goalie situation

Boucher will back up Emery in the NHL.
Backlund will be the AHL starter.
Teslak or Duchesne will back up Backlund. Depending on what happens at camp, one of these guys could get released.
Riopel will probably end up in the ECHL.
We don't know how the Flyers and Sharks are doing it, but usually each team gets to place one goalie on the affiliate, so we might only have room for one.
Just a guess, we'll see at camp - acc. to this article, Riopel thinks he's being signed to be a Phantom.

That sounds a lot more reasonable than my post. As I said, I'm not a goalie dude.

I doubt Duchesne, who showed up to 2 of the rookie camp trainings would outbeat Riopel. The people who watched Riopel at the camp said he was the best goalie there (better then Sunshine).
I'm very happy he got signed. I have seen very little of him other than a few Junior games, but his numbers are amazing and his attitude seems bang on what I like to hear. The thing that stood out for me when I saw him was his side to side movement. VERY impressive. Wasn't he the guy that Holmgren said did 70 some pushups in a minute? I love the fact he got passed over for a few yerars of the draft and now wants to prove everyone wrong (as opposed to say Wellwood who sounds like a cocky punk). Here is both what I expect and hope for
Emery/Boucher NHL
Backlund/Riopel AHL
Teslak ECHL
Duschene bought out so we aren't so close to 50 or traded for a bag of pucks or something
I wouldn't say the goalie prospect pool is amazing, but between he and Morrison and Ericksson hopefully one of them will make it. (I'm not sold on DeSerres at all) I'd say the last 2 years have given us better gaoltending prospects than many many other years, but only time will tell. At least a year or 2 later they don't totally suck yet which many of them had in the past.

This is what I think will happen, with bolded players as locks. I am also somewhat happier with our goalie prospect situation then in previous years. With goalies always being a crap shoot I think there is a chance that one of Backlund (I know he isn't really a prospect but we don't know how well he will translate his game to NA), Morrison, Ericksson, and Riopel will emerge as an NHL starter. It would be nice to have a blue-chip prospect but we have seen how many of those turn out to be busts.
It sometimes seems like players from the Q don't get near the recognition they deserve. He was the league MVP for crying out loud and still dropped to 5th round or where we got him at. Bourdon was the d man of the year last year and we got him in the 3rd. The Q has been pretty good to us in the past (i.e Gagne and Giroux) so hopefully this late rounder is gem. I believe he was unranked like most of the Flyer picks this year but I could be wrong.
I doubt it. He's still in college. He also needs to develop big time. I know he got lots of attention at the prospect camp because of the way he stood up Clackson, but other than massive size I don't know what he really bring to the table at this point. Who knows, he might be the next huge D man to make a mark but I suspect he's the next Ian Forbes. It's like a decade or later and I'm still mad about that pick. That was an unbelievably deep draft that year and we wizzed that pick away by picking up Forbes. The next time you are bored head over to Hockey Data BAse and check out some of the amazing talent we didn't get. I realize that every year and in every situation you can generally find guys in leater rounds that surprise, but come on, that was a fantasitic year and we picked FORBES in the second round? end rant.

to me duschesne is not part of the equation at all. he isnt any good. he may even be let go. riopel will probably be in the echl just to get playing time unless he really dazzles in camp as bob backlund they want to see what they have with him.
