IMO, Halak will be traded and Manny will be the Price backup. Sanford will be the AHL starter and if Gainey can't trade Halak, then Manny will be the AHL starter and Sanford the AHL backup.
As much as I'd like this, I think its just a rumor theres no one else reporting it and until I see a link that isn't twitter i'll still function under the assumption that halak is backup
I thought Fernandez was a decent #1. I'm really surprised he'd be a backup,... with a 2 way deal...
And that is why this hole rumor is just plain BS. Why would you sign your backup goalie to a 2 way deal for 1 year and why would Manny, who wanted to retire after last season, even consider this exactly?

Even if you were under the assumption that this rumor is true, Halak still is the back up. All the rumor is saying is that Fernandez has been offered a contract, nothing more.
I would have offered him the same contract that Sanford was offered, so it doesn't bother me or surprise me in the least that Gainey might have done so. It also wouldn't surprise me that Fernandez would turn it down, and we'd end up with Sanford instead. It's all good.
CKAC apparently, but as anyone else heard of them speak of it on there ?
I think he said good source. Sounds weird to me unless Fernandez has suddenly changed his tune because I remember him hating being a backup in the past.

Beggars can't be choosers. He is from Montreal though isn't he?
At some point, Halak will be traded either in a package for an upgrade at another position or for a draft pick. It's no secret he'd like to play somewhere where he has an opportunity to start and that won't happen in Montreal given Price's status and age. I can see Bob trading Halak as a favor as long as Bob can land a capable backup (i.e. Fernandez).
Could be a very cheap option as a back up to Price if Halak were to be traded. If signed I'm sure it signals that Gainey is trading Halak, with Sanford signed as well we won't see Desjardins in the ECHL.

Reason: Merge
Well its not Montreal fans, but I'm thinking by the luck of the draw, we're going to end up with a Redden-Chara deal, where we keep the better one, and the traded one becomes a 7'' mythical beast.
what do you mean? If we trade Halak it wont be for scraps believe me! He'll be packaged. And I would argue that Fernandez is better than Halak. And fernandez knows his role
c'mon guys... none of us has superpowers on predicting the future.
in my opinion, both goalies are good, they have a lot of potential but i have to admit that i prefer price.
anyway if bob sign fernandez, it means that he'll make a transaction.
one name comes to my mind: FROLOV lol..
