I would rather see the Caps try to add some defensive power than offensive power. If the Rangers were smart, they would try to get Zherdev into the Western Conference, and not let him go to the same division...
hmm, the same Eklund that said this jibberish today:
Things are startting to get interesting in Buffalo. Not only are they in on the Sabres, but I am hearing that the Sabres are in on Dennis Seidenberg following Teppo's retirement. I think Seids makes sense in Buffalo.
Marc-Andre Bergeron is another player who could be signing this afternoon. So far today I have heard Phoenix, Columbus, NJ, and the NJ Devils
Is it possible.... That Darcy and Lindy had a talk about signing Z and it went something like
Darcy: " How do you feel about Z, I wanted to draft him but we missed out"
Ruff: "Seems like Max 2.0 to me, but I have learned my mistakes with Max, and feel I could be a good influence on Z if he were signed"
Darcy: "I may look into signing him then. If we can get him for less than market value because of his attitude, I may do it. All ytou have to do Lindy is work on bringing out the best in him"
Could that discussion have even taken place? Maybe they think they are the right coaching staff to change Z's attitude, and bring out the best in him.
Zherdev to the Caps would be a great fit for all parties.
I do think the Caps are a good fit for Zherdev but he isn't what they need, which is an upgrade in goal and a physical, shutdown Dman. He'd be a great regular season fit but his salary would handcuff them now and in down the road in trying to fill their most pressing needs. Plus his inconsistent work ethic and style of play doesn't translate well in the postseason.
