What gear did you get for a crazy deal?

I know people will once in awhile stumble over a crazy deal they got for hockey gear and i like to hear what you guys got and for how much.

I recently got a S17 helmet Sr. from door crasher sale at my local hockey retailer for $50! I was aiming for the S17 stick for $100 but they were snatched before i got to them. Overall i was still very happy with the helmet.

Lets hear what you guys got.

I got a promasque XDK helmet, graf pro goalers, brians beast pads and gloves, 2 sticks, and some pants I gave away for $300. The stuff was used but in awesome condition. That helmet alone is over a grand new.

Also got vaughn velocity 2 pads and gloves for $200 bucks. Sold as "used" but were almost brand new. I love craigslist.

As a frame of reference for us non-playing types....how much should "value", "average", and "good" hockey equipment cost?

For frame of reference, I'll go over my seldom-used player equipment. You can easily spend far more than I did, or less.

Shins, elbows, and shoulders- CCM Vector 4's- total of about $90 for the package
Pants- Vapor- somethings (I forget) $75
Jock- $25
Gloves- Bauer Supreme 50's: $75
Helmet- CCM- I forget, couldn't have been more than 50-75
Skates- Vector 10's (They were on sale for like $200 off or else I wouldn't have) $250
Stick- You can pay anywhere from 30ish for a wood sher-wood to $230 for the super high end composite sticks. I imagine most people spend between 100-150 for sticks? Thats a complete guess though.

Most of my stuff is low or average end, with the exception of the skates- but they were last years model on sale. Goalie equipment is far worse of a hit on your wallet.

I got a brand new (latest model) Easton Synergy for $150 once. They were tagged for like $220-230 and definitely would not have bought them that high. Of course, the most expensive stick I ever bought breaks the fastest.

Couple years ago I bought a brand new chest protector off Ebay from some store in the states. I won it for $75 or so $100 with shipping but when it arrived it still had the tags on it. The retail price was $367

Depends, there are plenty of factors at play. How much protection do you need, what level are you playing at, full contact or no check, are you willing to buy gear leftover from last year or do you have to have the latest and greatest, and last but not least size and availability.

Not including skates and sticks, you could outfit yourself with some decent gear for under $400.

I bought new elbow, shoulder, gloves and pants last year. It ran me just under $225 and I ended up with some really nice stuff all brand new too.

Best deal had to be my skates. Brand new RBK 8k's for $250. Pants would be a close second, Mission Fuel 110's for $60.

I bought 4 Easton Pro Stock Synergies that came out to $92/stick delivered to my door in April. These are 110 grips that would have gone for $179 at Hockey Giant. I play 2-3 games per week and skate up to 4 times total in a week and I am using the first stick of the batch with the second as my back up. The other 2 are still in the plastic wrap in my closet. I place more value on the sticks I use than some people so this is a great deal for me. Especially when some of the sticks I buy for $179 at Hockey Giant can last all of 3 outings.

Tackla pro 5000s- $150 pants, $50. Or my Mission Injection gloves- when they were new (2002ish) They went for over $100. $20 from a guy on my team who tried them once and discovered they were too small, and they had just been sitting around for a few years before I got them.

Shoulder pads- old Easton SP 8200s- free. Guy had them sitting around.

Easton ST 16 shins- last year's model, $50 with shipping on a $120 pad. Sometimes wearing a really short shin helps (short guy, wear socks in).

I used to work at a used sports store, and would get gear that we recieved on trade ins for half cost. A player from the WHL brought in 4 One95 pro stock sticks that were never used and I was bought all four for $150. As well we would recieve Used Oilers gear at times and I picked up a pair of almost new Tom Gilbert Vapor XXXX skates for under a $100.

I'm not sure how "crazy" these recent deals may be but I got some farrell shoulder pads for $89 which is a good deal because they sell for $140+

I just got a harrow composite shaft for $50 as a clearance item from last year's line to make room for the new 2010 stuff, their shafts sell for $90 or so usually.

I also got a Harrow composite blade for $25 on the same clearance deal.

got a pair of easton 14" gloves at a yard sale a couple weeks ago for $5 - looked almost brand new - didn't look like they had been used more than a few times.

got a pair of used tackla goal pants on ebay a while ago; think they were less than $50 including shipping. (maybe got a better deal because they are green and not a more usual colour).

So, what do you all do with used equipment? Can you just launder everything?
