Toronto-Nashville

To NAS:

Alexei Ponikarovsky
2011 5th Round Pick

To Tor:

Taylor Beck
2010 2nd Round pick

I'm too lazy to type a lengthy description of why each team would do this, but to summarize it all: Toronto's rebuilding and Nashville could use another top 6 forward.

Thoughts.

No real incetive for the leafs to do this. Ponikarvosky is a very valuable piece to Grabo/Kulemin's development.

No real incentive for Nashville to do this. Plenty of free agents available.

Dont really understand this. Why not just simplify this.

To Nas:
Poni
2nd or 3rd round pick 2010

1st round pick 2010
Salary dump (Only if they need to)

Why does X player have to solely equal Y player OR prospect?

The 2nd Rounder to us is because Poni is a proven top 6 20 goal forward while Beck, who is an intriguing prospect, is still very raw and isn't a guarantee he will reach the NHL(but he probably will). Nashville are contenders now-- with lots of cap space, so making a trade for a player like Poni would make sense from their POV.

Plus Poile was interested in Poni at the Trade Deadline last season.

Because Poile will not relinquish a 1st round pick. Even though I'm not totally 100% confirmed on this, but Poile is one of the smarter GMs in the league that also has built the best cap friendly team in the league, so I don't think that's even a remote possibility.
