Horton-Stafford trade talks heating up

According to a Buffalo radio station (it's on the trade board)

Stafford's an RFA, I find the trade interesting, but I think Buffalo adds. Especially with Stafford being an RFA.

Stafford seems like another Horton, but he's at least dropped 'em with Neil to protect a teammate. Has pretty good speed as well. I'm mostly interested, since he's another Horton, in seeing what we can get him signed for and really what's coming back with Stafford. Could also be a precursor.

Agreed. I hope this just stays as a rumor and nothing else.

Not me, if it's not to Buffalo that's fine, but I want Nate goooooooone. As I said, I'm interested to see what could be rounding out the deal from Buffalo.

You and I agree on a lot of stuff, but I can't say that I want to see not gone. He honestly does have the talent to be one of the best forwards in the league. No hyperbole. When he's angry he's like Bertuzzi of old or like a 50-goal Iginla.

I really do believe he's going to put it all together one day. May this season. Maybe next. Maybe when he's 30. When he plays like he's a bull in a china-shop, he's really just unstoppable. I just hope he finds that game again before he leaves the Panthers.

There has to be more than Stafford coming back if this is the case. Straight up is just a horrible trade.

It would be WAY too premature to trade Horton, right now. He's only 24 years old and has proven he can score 30 goals and 60 points--and that's him not playing to his potential. Maybe if he was 28 or 29, but not a 24 year old.

That's my big issue with him, though, he's RARELY that bull we know he has in him. I appreciate his efforts at center last season, but I'm just not a fan of his.

There would have to be more coming back, imo. Stafford is an RFA and Nate is signed through 2012-2013. This trade could really help round out the team.

Depends on what we get back for him. We keep saying (and plenty here then begin to rag on him, the team, the GM, etc) that Nate's going to have a breakout season. I agree he has potential, but again, I'm interested to see what would come back, especially with Stafford being a RFA.

Stafford is the same as Horton, yet less productive and less talented. Considering Stafford would be the centerpiece of any deal, i wouldn't be that excited.

Not sure centerpiece so much as a piece Florida wants back in the trade.

This could also be a precursor trade.

Don't know that Stafford is less talented, their production is very close.

Yeah, it won't happen straight up. Buffalo definitely has to sweeten the deal. I really doubt this trade falls through but if it does, what would need to be added? A 2nd or a dman? What are the Panthers' needs at the moment?

Their production is not close.

Horton has already scored 62 pts. twice. Stafford's career high is 45.

Their production was off by like .7 from what I saw on the other thread.

Really, this makes more sense and has more coming back when you look at the logjam at their defense. I don't know that we'd have to take back Tallinder (and think we're in the driver's seat), but we'd likely be after a solid defenseman with some speed to help round things out.

Team problem? Offense. Stafford is not as productive as Horton now, has similar issues, and has less upside. Therefore, this is a negative trade.

A solid defenseman isn't really what im interested if im dealing Horton.

May be more coming back, I've seen some of Stafford, I'm not terribly disappointed to move Nate. Sorry, tired of his crap.

.7 what? The fact is Horton has scored 62 pts. twice, and likely would have again last season if he didn't get hurt and played on the wing. Stafford is still unproven and had a subpar year last year. Their production isn't really that close.

I actually think we'd be looking at another forward coming back with Stafford or a good prospect, or both. We don't need any of their d-men they'd be willing to give up.

So you want Stafford? I understand the displeasure towards Horton, but i don't think you realise thst Stafford is still a clear downgrade. Its like all the Ranger fans who are now calling Zherdev garbage, when he was still an above average NHL player. Horton is the same to an extent, fustrating to have and watch, but you still shouldn't downgrade the asset for a less productive and talented player. What else would Buffalo package of interest? We aren't getting another top 6 forward, or a top F prospect back. Thats what we need. Im not convinced downgrading Horton's productivity and upside is worth picking up another solid but average defenseman along with Stafford.
