Frolov for Souray

There has been talk of a trade involving Souray and Frolov in Edmonton. A media personality has put forward that a trade is in the works involving a top dman and a source that called the Heatley non trade before it happened has said it is Souray for Frolov and maybe something else. Thoughts?

I doubt it. We just traded Visnovsky to the Oilers last year. Souray has a similar contract for a similar term... They were looking for a D-man but I don't think they are looking that high.

hypothetically - it'd be cool to a have fill for our PP point shot but not at the cost of Frolov and leaving the LW position completely bare again but i highly doubt this is happening.

my thoughts are i'd like more info on who the "media personality" is

and by source, is the media personality quoting the source he/she can't reveal or are you saying you have heard it the two places?

either way. no way this deal happens. frolov is young and has solid upside along with already being a great 2way player.

souray is a stud but gets hurt and is old.

both teams would be dealing strength to strength. i think EDM's LW is solid while LA does not need offensive D help.

if this trades happens i'll change my user name to "i am an idiot"

Souray brings a lot to the table though, not just his shot. There's the leadership abilities on and off the ice, and don't forget his fighting skills. He always sticks up for teammates on the ice, and wins the majority of his fights.

Media personality is Dan Tencer. He runs the sports talk show on the Oilers rightsholder's station 630 Ched. You can catch his show on the net weeknights.

The source is a poster who claims to have access to management somehow. He gave a heads up on a big trade two weeks before the Heatley deal and then gave specifics before it happened. He is one for one in that regard even though it fell through because of the nmc.

Personally, I am not believing anything until it happens. Just thought you guys might want to know and it might give you something to talk about for a couple of hours.

The Oilers moving a big ticket dman was first brought to light by the Oiler's radio color man Bob Stauffer.

Oh gawd NO. Were not taking on that salary for that long of term. Unless Mike Greene or someone of that caliber is coming this way and someone like Johnson going the other one I dont see it EVER happening. No thanks Edmonton. Keep fishing for top line players that dont want to play for Edmonton.

I like Souray, he'd be a good fit here, but not at the price of Frolov. And then where does he fit? Who plays LW for us? Smyth and who else?

I actually think Souray would be a perfect fit for us.

In another thread we had a debate over whether Lombardi should add an offensive minded dman, or a gritty/tough dman. Well Souray is both, and he brings an elite point shot to the PP.

With this being said, I would rather extend Frolov.

I would argue the LA has the worst blueline, in terms of offense, in the entire NHL. The Kings desperately need scoring from the back end.

Sounds like a bogus rumor to be quite honest.

To me it sounds like a conglomeration of rumors. There's the rumor that Edmonton is looking to move a defenseman, there are the rumors every season that Frolov will be dealt. Edmonton is looking for a top line winger and have defensemen to spare.

No way. Makes no sense from the Kings' perspective. It would just prevent our young defenseman from having a chance to crack the lineup (although Souray would probably last 20 games before getting injured) and Murray has already said that Hickey and Teubert would get a chance to prove themselves at camp.

Ridiculous. Why? Why didn't we sign Souray when he wanted to come here?

Because Smyth wanted to go to a contender, I'd assume.

No one wanted Souray, that's why he ended up in Edmonton. I don't see why we'd want him now either.

He led the team in goals with 23, has a laser from the point and is great on the pp, is tough as nails, absolutely destroying guys in fights, hits, is mean and nasty in front of his own net, played every game last year. I would think that he would be the perfect mentor for your great young dmen. I dont want him to go but he has his family in LA and probably wants to be closer to them and I dont begrudge him that. Apparently Montreal offered him more money but he chose Edmonton to be closer to LA.

It would have been more likely had the Kings not signed Scuderi and/or O'Donnell retired. Now that they're the mentors, I don't see Souray as a possible option.

Souray is being paid like a number one d-man but isn't good enough at D to deserve that money.

Im a big Souray fan actually and think I am the Liquor pretty close in analysis....that said we have a glut of Dmen with 3 high caliber players to compete for the 6th spot. Just dont see us making a move for another dman....a highly paid dman at that.
