NYI-WAS minor prospect swap

To NYI: Josh Godfrey
To WAS: Tomas Marcinko

Islanders need some more defense in the system and Godfrey may never get a full chance in Hershey. Hershey already has Helmer and Amadio on AHL deals, Miskovic, P. McNeill, Alzner, Schultz, Finley and Dovgan on 2 way deals. Then there is also Collins and Sloan who are on 1 ways for next season, but will probably be waived and assigned to Hershey. I just do not see a spot for Godfrey in the near future, even with Hershey and as of right now he is ECHL bound again.

Marcinko is a 6'4" center who played on Bridgeport's 4th line last season and did a solid job on the PK and a shutdown center. The Islanders aren't that high on him, but he might do better in a different organization. Marcinko reminds me of a Dave Steckel type player.

This is just a minor proposal, a swap of spare parts for 2 players who have 2 yrs left on their entry level contract.

I don't know enough about Marcinko to know if this is fair (but from your description it sounds like his upside is lower than Godfrey's may be), but if there's one thing the Bears need less than D, it's probably Cs.

Of the guys you listed, Schultz is definitely not in the AHL, Sloan and Collins almost certainly are. Alzner is a maybe, hopefully the Caps he'll earn a roster spot in camp and the Caps will clear one up for him. Dovgan and Miskovic could both end up in South Carolina as well, it really depends on camp I'd imagine. Keep in mind also that the Bears already have more than the max number of AHL vets, so some of them will be sitting every game.

I'm not averse to trading Godfrey at all. But this isn't the type of deal I see the Caps doing, not at this point at least, not while he's still got 2 years left on his ELC.

I don't understand why they signed Collins and Sloan to one-way deal, The Caps already have 7 other d-men that can make the job (Green, Poti, Pothier, Erskine, Jurcina, Schultz, Morrisonn) unless a trade is coming

I don't either. Neither have a real shot at playing in the NHL except as injury callups (unless I'm severely misjudging the org.'s impressions of them).

Maybe that was the only way to get them to stay.

If I'm not mistaken, Godfrey is supposed to have an absolute BOMB of a shot.

That said, I'm going with the mode here and agreeing he's likely never to wear a Caps uni ... but also agree that he's still an asset that can be packaged for a more fitting piece.

ie: 1st + Godfrey + ShaMo + Bouchard 4 Volchekov + 3rd

Something like that (PS ... Anton would kill it with Washington)

Bouchard, there's another talented player stuck in a numbers game... who I'd gladly trade for a vet dman.

Seriously, where do I sign?

I think even Ottawa would jump at that, maybe closer to the deadline though, I'm pretty sure they are gunning for the playoffs this year though, so they'll prolly want to hang on to Volchenkov... but if not either a re-sign or a trade, and the one proposed here is quite good return for V.

Sorry for the misspelling of Anton's name .... was at work when I posted and my boss rounded a corner really fast.

But yea, I think the Caps as someone eluded to earlier have a plethora of talent at the A, E, and OHL levels. Would love to see them package either Godfrey / Finley / Bouchard / Pierrault .... + for a player similar to AV.

He does, and that tool alone would be a nice building block for the Islanders, since our only big shooter in the system is Jyri Niemi. Godfrey is a wildcard prospect who I think would be great in Hershey, but of course they're loaded with all the D and he's back to SC.

1. Sloan and Collins are signed to one way deals because they are signed as NHL backups. The one way deals deter being picked off waivers when they are sent to Hershey to start the season.

2. Godfrey has a Al MacInnes level slap shot. The Caps are not going to let him go. He also plays with an edge that the Caps like. If he gets his defensive game together, think Al Iafrate.

Caps probably scoff at that one.
