Hell, they should have put Budaj on their 4th line!! Looks like everyone had headed off the ice (end of the game/period??) but WOW!! Wonder what the hell happened or was said to start that MESS!! hahaha!
I remember it. In a way, it was kind of cool. Goalie fights are rare, but when the two benches go back to the locker room and THEN the two goalies decide to fight? That's epic stuff right there.
I was told by a scout after the game that Budaj was accomplished in some form of martial arts, thus the handshake (it's not mentioned in the 06-07 Avs media guide, which is consistent with the fact, actually).
I missed this game and heard about the event, saw the P-Bruins a few nights later and caught up to Hannu, who was extremely humble in the wake of it. One of his ears looked like a dog chewed on it. Said he's definitely not a fighter, not proud of what he did. That Budaj offered his hand and he took it.
Thing I miss about Hannu is he had that Patrick Roy sort of presence at the AHL level. Big, he could take over a game, had an animated presence on the ice and with a hostile crowd. I was really looking forward to how the NHL Bruins would respond when that personality emerged as their No. 1. Then he wrecked that ankle.
