This wont happen, I've been thinking about it, and Burrows wont be parted with according to Nucks. Markov will never leave.

This just makes no sense.

You're missing the point. My question is a hypothetical one. What would it take, if you were GM of the Habs, to pry him away from you?

Markov?
They better cough up Hodgson, Edler, Raymond and a 1st

Doesn't this guy know that the Montreal Canadiens cannot win a hockey game without Andrei Markov and therefore saying that they're trading him discredits him entirely?

Every team in the league wants Markov.

But they will not get what they want, he is going nowhere.

Why would we want a young goaltender? Thats like saying "the Penguins are looking for a young center"...

I'll rather have Hanssen then raymond, he is a little more gritty.

I have a very reliable source with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he confirmed that the Jackets are interested in Markov.

I also know someone who works for the Oilers, he also confirmed that they are interested in Markov.

To add to all this frenzy, my good good friend who knows someone in the Panthers organizatoin has confirmed that they are also interested in Markov...

Finally, I also heard from 11 independant sources that the 11 teams in question (which I can't name unless you subscribe to my blog for $20 a year) have all said that they would be interested in Sid Crosby if he became available...

With all this talk, you just know something's gonna happen... I'd say, we're super-close to seeing a deal happen within the next 24 days, mark my words...

Markov, Price, Plekanec

for

Luongo, Edler, Kesler

If there was a deal between these 2 teams (and there isn't) with the players mentioned involved (and they're not) then this is a deal I could imagine both teams making.

The nucks get a local boy who could pan out into a franchise goalie, they get an elite defenseman and they get a troubled center who could anchor a 2nd line.

The Habs get their star French Canadian, a great young D-man with upside and a great contract and a 2-way, gritty north american player with offensive upside and a great work ethic.

Too many key pieces of each team are involved to make this deal a reality...but value wise I think its a fair deal.

That I don't have sources, or that teams wouldn't be interested in Crosby?

For only $50 a year, you'll have access to my rumour pivot table...

Just out of Sheer curiosity, if we managed to shed Hammer's contract, and get a reliable d. Would you be willing to trade a few parts, pleks+ etc... for Briere for his role as a #2 center? #1 no way, but #2? I wonder..

How does this make the Habs a better team?

Markov + Plekanec >>> Edler + Kesler

Price is 21 and a RFA, Luongo is a UFA at the end of the season.

It makes no sense.

Let's have some fun with this.

Both teams have 20 players signed and need to sign 3 more to make a complete roster. Both teams need help in the top 6 area and depth forward area.

Vancouver probably needs more help on D than we do, we have a lot of NHL calibre D. Vancouver needs to clear some cap space in order to sign 2010 UFA's Luongo, Mitchell and RFA Kelser who will command 4-5 million per.

Montreal needs top 6 help. Even top 3 line help. They need youth on their D and need offensive skill up the middle from the prospect level as well.

This is very hypathetical, but this type of trade helps both teams in areas. Both are having to give up gems, but in order to make a trade work you both have to give to get.

To Montreal:
Edler on D $3.25 million
Burrows at LW $2 million
O'Brien on D $1.6 million (2010 UFA)
Hodgson at C $1,725 million

Total salary coming to Montreal - $8,575,000
To Vancouver:
Markov on D $5,75 million
Plekanec at C $2,75 million (2010 UFA)
Chipchura at C $900,000 (2010 RFA)
O'Byrne on D $941,667
1st Round Draft Pick

Total salary coming to Vancouver - $10,341 667

Difference in salary going each way is $1,766,667 going to Vancouver. They have the space though. They get a PP and 1st Dman in Markov, a 2nd line Centre in Plekanec to play with Demitra, a depth Dman in O'Byrne to play 6th D and a local BC boy as well and another Western boy in Chipchura to play on the 3rd and 4th lines in a checking role. Montreal also sweetens the deal by adding a 1st rounder in a very deep 2010 draft, one that is considered deeper than 2009.

Montreal gets 2 players signed to long term deals to go with the players Gainey added this summer, we get younger, Montreal get skill on the back end in Elder, more toughness in O'Brien and the gem in the deal Hodgson to play as our second line centre and a centre piece to build around with Price, Subban, Patches and our other youngsters.

It is a large deal, and these don't happen anymore but in order for Montreal to get value for Markov it has to be centred around a large deal to work.

Now blast away or build your proposal for fun.

No for three reasons.

(1) Briere is not what we want, we want size added because Gionta/Gomez/Camerelli are small skilled forwards and we need to compliment them with size and skill.

(2) The contract.

(3) The injuries.

I don't like us giving a 1st pick and that our number two center would be a rookie (Hodgson) or Lapierre
