Nicklas Grossman's New Contract

I'll just reference my post from a few weeks ago.

Milan was 26 when the contract was awarded. Nicklas Grossman will be 25 years old next summer when he is arbitration eligible.
I don't think he'll make less than $1.5 million. If Huddy can help him explore his offensive abilities, Grossman could go closer to $2 million.

My Guess: 2 years @ $1.625 million ($1.5 & $1.75) or 3 years for between $1.75 and $2 million

I have a feeling this one's going to be more than we're expecting, whether in term or amount.

If Huddy is as good as advertised by Edmonton fans, I'm afraid we could say the same about Niskanen as well.

Denis Grebeshkov (off the top of my head) saw his production jump from 18 in 2007-08 to 39 points last season, and it seems many Edmonton fans credit Huddy for his development.

I tried to find some other comparable contracts at capgeek.com. Not alot that are real good comparables...

Ladislav Smid (23), 2 yrs, $1.3M cap hit
Roman Polak (23), 2 yrs, $1.1M cap hit
Matt Hunwick (24), 2 yrs, $1.45 cap hit
Shaone Morrisonn (26) 1 yr, $1.975M cap hit

I also agree Grossman could be one of the guys to get a longer deal (4 or 5 years), especially if he plays well this season.

At a minimum I would expect he would get about 2 years and $1.9M cap hit. If he goes to arbitration, he should hit $1.75M easily for one year.

A 4 year deal (1.8, 2.2, 2.8, 3.2) around $2.5M cap hit or 5 year at close to a $3M cap hit wouldn't surprise me either. I think Grossman has a great season and the Stars look to lock him up longer term.

Long-term please. He is one of the most consistent defensemen the Stars have. They need some stability on the line.
