Could Slats pull a Drury trade out of the hat? That would be amazing. I say get us another young second liner and two good prospects.

I think expecting 20 goals from Anisimov this year would be unfair to him.

I expect nothing more then playing solid two way hockey. And providing some offense.

If he hovers around 14-15 goals i will be ecstatic.

Possible 20 goal seasons:

Gaborik (30+, 40+)
Higgins
Dubinsky
Drury
Kotalik
Prospal
Callahan
Lisin

Although, i'd rather Prospal be setting Kotalik and Drury up for goals.

And Callahan will be hard pressed to replicate last year's numbers while playing on the third line.

And i'd rather have more offensively gifted Lisin on the third line with Anisimov, rather then Avery.

Higgins - Dubinsky - Gaborik
Prospal - Drury - Kotalik
Lisin - Anisimov - Callahan
Avery - Boyle - Brashear
Byers, Arnason as the extras.

Get as much offense out of the lineup as possible.

And i'd like:

Staal - Girardi
Redden - Rozsival
Bouillon - Gilroy

As the top 6 Defense.

Potter or Sauer as the 7th.

Depending. Sauer is only 22 so he should play every game. Potter is going on 26 so using him as the 7th isn't a terrible thing.

Can't help but believe a Drury trade could have been made. They would have had to take Preissing back

And Drury would have to also agree to the trade. Something I don't see him agreeing him to.

Basically replaced what Naslund gave the Rangers last season for a lot less money. On paper, a great move.

The difference between Brooks and Eklund is that Brooks offers thoughts are generally rooted in fact. He does not make up rumors like Buzz Boy. Read his article carefully. Think Sather didn't call Dallas?

personally I was more upset about Avery on the 1st line. Not to knock Avery (I'm a fan) but why would you put one of the best 3rd line agitators on the 1st line? I can't understand that.

As of right now I see:

Avery Dubinsky Gaborik
Higgins Drury Callahan
Lisin Prospal Kotalik
Brashear TBD TBD

I think Dubinsky could be traded for Heatley.

I would be utterly shocked for Anisimov to net 20. I dont think Avery will either.

Anisimov, to me i'm looking for a solid all around game, a Steve Rucchin presence, I guess. 10-15 goals would be nice, 30-35 points. I don't think he is going to be one of those instant offensive successes in the NHL.

In fact, with this signing, Anisimov now has to make the roster, and force somebody to the 4th line.

I don't like Avery on the 4th but oh well, That 2nd line would be one of the hardest working in the league. The third minus Anisimov might be a defensive liability.

Anisimov is the benchmark indicator for whether this organization is truly committed to giving its young forwards a chance. He is not some kid just arriving from Europe. He has been in the AHL for two years. His second year was significantly better than his first. He was one of the better young centers in the league. Anyone who saw him play and improve last year knows that he is ready to play and contribute now. There is no reason for him to spend anymore time at Hartford unless he struggles big time at the NHL level. If the Rangers don't give him a legitimate opportunity to earn a job (including making mistakes, learning from them, and not worrying that every shift and each mistake will earn him a trip up I-95) they will be shown that they really have not learned a thing.
Really....keeping Prospal and sending AA down? What a disaster. It might make us better in the short term (I mean the very short term) but worse in the long run. We will be stunting a talented player's development. Face it guys...this is not an elite team or a legit Cup contender. The addition of Prospal makes us marginally better. A developing and talented AA at the NHL level makes us significantly better a year or two down the road when he might, just might, evolve into an elite team.

AA will be the 3rd line center, Prospal will be left wing on the top line, Higgins 2nd line LW.

Lisin will be on the 4th line waiting for an injury or someone to slump. I was excited to see what Lisin could bring, but i'd rather have the proven guy out there that I know what can bring.

I definitely think Potter should be #7. He's had 3 full seasons in the pros (2.5 in Hartford, 0.5 in Charlotte), so he doesn't need to play every single game. If Potter gets 25-30 games as a #7 defenseman, he'll be ok.

Reasonably speaking, I don't think Potter can expect to spend his career as more than a 6-7 defenseman.

Well, absolutely no chance we acquire Heater now, IMO. That's a good thing.

Great gaggle of forwards, Batman!

I am pretty sure Prospal was brought in to be a winger. Higgins can play center as well which is a nice option but they are both going to play wing barring any injuries. I dont think Lisin will be on the 4th line(at least I hope not) but I guess we will see. I hope there is a deal coming because there are just too many forwards and it is a shame to see NHL level talent sit in the minors.

You also think Avery will play on the top line over both Prospal and Higgins...so I feel somewhat secure that Dubi isn't going anywhere.

Avery has yet to prove he can play a full season, and Lisin has yet to prove he's worthy of top 9 minutes. Combine that with Anisimov still being green and Gaborik a serious injury risk, and this is a very good signing, even though I'm not a fan at all of Prospal.
