you do know detroit was easily the top scoring team in the league last year. obviously it hurts losing hossa, but theyll still be top 5 in scoring.

Each player (eaves, jwill and bert if he signs) all have one year deals who need to step up and play hard if they wanna get more contracts and the like. It forces them to play hard.

Signing bert means maltby and draper will rotate in and out of the lineup, which i personally like the most.
Ya, really like the rotation theory!

Detroit doesn't need to worry about losing Hossa's 40 goals, they need to worry about losing the extra 50 goals against they gained last season.

Everybody knew Hossa was a one and done deal, they won the cup w/o him and went to the finals again despite him(not to mention Datsyuk's injury). Losing Samuelsson has been a dream come true to some Wing's fans, Hudler bolting was a surprise but these guy's are 3rd line players in Detroit....successful 3rd line players who earned a chance to make more money. Time for some other guys to make the 3rd line money.....

haha this is so funny. Best case scenario: bert plays 60 games, puts up 30 points, everybody hates him, and the wings lose in the first round after he takes a tripping penalty in the offensive zone with 2 mins left in game 7. Worst case scenario: he breaks Steve Yzerman's neck.

So $1.5 million for Bertuzzi. $1.1 million for Prospal. Both 1 year contracts. How much does Tanguay want? $5 million?

Sammy always was and always will be a 3rd line player. The fact he played for the Wings is the ONLY reason he even gets talked about. Lets see how he does in VanCity being EXPECTED to get 2nd line type points, 60ish plus playing with Raymond or Demitra...

Hudler's loss sucks plain and simple. I was hoping for big things from him this year

Kopecky big deal and is easily replaced by anyone from the farm.

Hossa wasnt their in the spring of 2008 was he, and what happened exactly?

Zetterberg will get back to 40ish goals like he did in 07-08 with the increased minutes and pp time alongside Datsyuk.

Williams will get 15-20goals and around 45-55pts much like last year while with Atlanta and Columbus.

Eaves will get around 5-10 goals.

Fillpula will break out to over 65pts..

Leino will get 15-20 goals and 40-45 pts.

Bertuzzi will get around 20 goals and 50pts.(if actually signed)

Nothing special all just filler and allows their young guys to develop more with increased ice time and responsability.

Next summer the Wings have around 17million in cap space with Lidstrom and Holmstrom to be resigned and to a lesser importance Maltby. Tons o'money..

Hello Savard welcome to the motor city...

Filppula will never score over 50 points, and there's no way in hell he goes from <40 points for three straight years with extended time on scoring lines to 65+ points. He also likely won't see increased PP time as he is honestly terrible on the powerplay...he has no wristshot, no slapshot, and his passing isn't good enough to play a setup role. They tried that experiment last year and it sucked.

Flip is Draper-lite.

Sooner or later Wings fans will finally realize what a terrible signing that was.

That would really suck watching Bertuzzi win a cup with Detroit.

He can't. I mentioned this when he signed with Anaheim. No team with Bertuzzi is allowed to win the Cup. It's in the bible.

Bertuzzi is a cap-friendly move for sure. But with that comes problems:

1. He's a giveaway machine. So he'll disrupt any kinda 'puck possession' game the team wants to run.
2. He's a lazy penalty taker. Way too many selfish trips to the box.
3. He's slow.
4. He's injury-prone.
5. And last but certainly not least... He's got significant baggage.

And while I don't blame Holland for bringing in this inexpensive project player, he shouldn't expect wonders from him this season, in which he's diminished even further. And neither should anyone else.

Its not the best signing(s) the Wings have ever made, but, given what their cap situation was and what they had to work with its not the worst either. Next summer according to nhlnumbers the Wings will have about 17 million in available cap space with lidstrom, holmstrom, osgood and maltby to resign. Assuming Osgood signs for the same as his last deal, just over a million a season, maltby is let go and holmstrom then a 37 year old dosent decide now is the best time to go after a career contract and demand 5 million a season but rather stays around the 2 million a season he makes now the Wings will be sitting pretty.

Lilja wont likely be retained while Erikkson will be in the top 5 with kindl most likely making the team as well.

They will have give or take 14 million to resign Lidstrom(if he so chooses) and most likely for less than his current 7 plus million, and then plenty of money to shop around the best UFA class in years for either another dman, goalie or star forward(savard, jokinen, marleau, etc).

No worries Wings fans all will be ok...
