Very nice. The one other thing I noticed is that the Hornqvist one looks like his picture wasn't desaturated before you applied teh silhouette effect. There's still some blue on his socks.

I did the same thing too the first couple of times.

Yup, you're right... here's the final Hornqvist and Dekanich with a possible Jones, although I'm unsure about having multiple persons in the image and the dark blue.

A lot of teams do themes for the playoffs, but not as many for the regular season. The Red Wings' playoff set ("The Winning Elements") was a great example. You can probably still find a few of the avatars in less active accounts. Vancouver's Facebook theme is pretty good, too. Then you have teams like Calgary or Tampa Bay, where the users seem to pretty much be on their own...

At first I wasn't sold on the ipod theme, but the more I see them the more I like them.

Good job everyone.

Good, because I'm a little over a fourth of the way through the whole set.

Predsrule,

Did you use "Save for Web"? Because you can't save as an animated GIF with the standard "Save as", I believe.

I dont have a "Save for Web" only 2 options i have that would work is "Save as" and "Copy Image Location" and when I enter the location I get "Remote file is too large" But it is 125X125

Oh, I thought you were trying to save it from photoshop... if you're using one posted here, just use "copy image location" and refer to that in the control panel. HF saves it on their server, so even if one of us deletes it from our host, HF still has it.

I think I see the problem.

It's cjerina's Ryan Jones one that's doing it, right?

that one is 20.78kb, and the max file size for HF avatars is 20kb even (unless you're a sponsor, then it's 49.1kb). I guess the color change between frames and the different shades made by the more transparent silhouette of the guy getting hit are enough to inflate the file size.

cjerina, are you using imageready to animate your gifs? If you are, the easy way to tweak the file size (short of making the background the same in both frames) is to tweak the setting in the upper right palette. Try reducing the colors to less than 256 (which is what I defaulted the template to). Even 128, which is the next setting down, should bed more than enough to look fine. If that screws it up too much, keep the colors high and change the lossy and dither settings. Reduce the dither from 100% down and up the lossy from its default setting of zero. Small increments of like 3-5 for each one should be a good place to start. then just save it as you would normally (I like using the ctrl+alt+shift+s shortcut) and check the file size after each one. It's always best to be a little extra bit under 20 since uploading on the web causes a tiny bit of expansion. My own rule of thumb is to stay below 19.5kb.

The entire line isn't finished - I still have 16 more to do - but I'm busy with college stuff so I don't know when I'll get them done (hopefully later tonight). In the meantime, I'm going to test all of the avatars I have built now, and make sure they fit the size requirements for HF.

I'll also post a few of the avatars Nemesis made earlier, with his permission, of course.

Here is the first wave. Take what you like, but let's try not to use avatars more than once so everyone stays distinct. Keep in mind that the lineup is only a third of the way done, so if you have a particular player in mind that I don't have here, just be patient.

Colin Wilson:

Head Coach Barry Trotz:

New signing Marcel Goc:

Alex Sulzer:

(This one is subject to change. I may pull it down to work on the background.)

Pekka Rinne:

Kevin Klein:

Jason Arnott:

And my avatar, Ryan Suter:

...?

Klein is animating perfectly, just like the rest of them.

I would encourage everyone, especially those without avatars, to take one. I'll continue posting them in sets like this.

Ellis and hopefully Belak are up next. I've started on Weber, but I have a feeling it might take a while...

Nem,

I'm using CS3, which unfortunately, I am completely unfamiliar with for GIFs (hence the original previews as JPGs! I could actually use the old ImageReady way easier) and was unaware of what the actual size limit was on the avatars. Thanks for the info, I'll have it up with a smaller size hopefully tonight for you Predsrule.

Great work WOF, I especially LOVE the Trotz one!
