Isn't this exactly what the Avs would be doing with Nylander? Difference being Hannan actually has value with the Avs, unlike Nylander with the Caps.

You could have done that immediately considering the rumor is from Eklund.

*The Avalanche shed some salary and pick up some futures.
*Nylander finds a situation where he will play, rather than rotting on the sidelines in DC.

Hannan

2009-10 salary: $4.5M
2009-10 cap hit: $4.5M
2010-11 salary: $4.5M
2010-11 cap hit: $4.5M

Nylander
2009-10 salary: $5.5M
2009-10 cap hit: $4.875M
2010-11 salary: $3M
2010-11 cap hit: $4.875M
That'd be sweet.

Colorado's tanking this year and get a top prospect most likely D and they have lots of contracts coming off after this upcoming year where they're probably be big time buyers.

No one has suggested that he would retire. The suggestion was that he would play in the KHL, where contracts are significant for name players. Nylander would continue to get paid a salary at approximately the same level.

Otherwise, this goes nowhere. The Avalanche need to shed salary and the Caps can not afford to take on salary. The only major salary that could be on the way out is Nylander, whose value in the NHL trade market is basically negative.

What would motivate the Caps to do either one of those deals? They give up the best player (Laich and Poti) in both of them.

The only think Eklund has going here is that Nylander is going to play hockey somewhere this coming season and it won't be in Washington.

I tend to disagree with the notion that Nylander is so much worn out hockey junk. He is probably not worth the salary he gets this season, but might well be worth the check he is do for next season. I think on the right roster with the right minutes, Nylander could be a quality 2nd line center.

So, I think its worthwhile to consider where Nylander might end up and under what circumstances. We will see.

Av's writer Adrian Dater is thinking the Av's will trade Hannan, so there is some truth to Eklund at least.

Quote:
I believe the Avs are still trying to move one or more of their older, higher-paid defensemen (though not Adam Foote, hes got a no-trade). Scott Hannan is one of them I believe, and while he also has a no-trade clause, the Avs could ask him to waive it if they feel they get the right deal. Stay tuned.

It doesn't take an insider to figure out the Avs would want to move out a d-man or two. They have a bloated blueline as far as payroll goes and when you consider the beauty bounty coming up the pipeline.

I gave the option in Poti, Pothier, and Morrisonn. Then you throw in Bradley for Hannan. If it's agreed upon that Nylander will go to the KHL, it's still unlikely that a trade with him involved is consummated. The Caps would get the cap hit off the books anyway and can make a trade like Morrisonn and Bradley for Hannan.

I am stunned.

just as I was stunned to learn Heatley hadn't been traded even when it was announced as an E4 or E5.
