NHL's Best 21 and Under Talent - Kings Have Two...

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=4...id=DL|NHL|Home

NHL.com takes a look at the best of the League's young talent -- the top players who are age 21 and under. Doughty and Bernier made the list.

How did Bernier make it over Varlamov?

I think they put a few high drafted, young goalies neams in a hat and Bernier's name was selected. Even Varlamov has accomplished more than Bernier right now.

true. but as lauded as Erik Johnson is, 1st team, for reals?

regardless of all things considered, six of one, you know? he has GOT to be THE most overrated young defenseman in the league right now.

Maybe, but that shouldn't have anything to do with it. The list came out today and Kopi is 21.

I think draft position had a lot to do with some of the players making this list. Which means not a lot of thought went into it.

I would include hype in there is well. I especially agree with the second sentence of your post

I guess you missed this part: "Here's a look at the NHL's best players who donít turn 22 until 2010 and have played at least 40 games (except where noted) -- meaning that no 2009 draft picks are included."

Well if anyone read this list in 5 days they would be criticizing the author.

You are clueless, EJ was better in his rookie season than Doughty or Bogosian. Not sure how he comes back from his injury but he belongs there before any of the other 3 2008 guys listed. If EJ hadn't injured himself I'd have no issue moving Dought for him right now snd wouldn't mind one bit (Well I obviously prefer Doughty now and feel attached to him but we'd be getting equal or better back).

clueless?

you've basically based your assessment on an "if." and "better" in this case is rather subjective... for instance, Zach Bogosian was the only plus player among the three at the conclusion of their respective rookie seasons on the (technically) worst team of the three.

the fact remains that he DID get hurt and has already missed an entire season.

in less than one calendar year he had 3 big injuries, two of which required surgery... one was for his knee... already.

so you tell me that a kid, regardless of who he is, what team he plays for and his talent level, that can endure all that, miss an entire season, has played in less than 70 games at the NHL level, and may (MAY) not reach the level he had initially been projected at yet still continues to draw these automatic responses about undoubtedly being a perennial Norris threat from here on out by some 90% of the HFboards, is not overrated.

Hopefully Loktionov can actually participate this time around. And isn't Voynov coming off a surgery?

Schenn is likely never going to be a big number defenseman, and because of that i think that aside from the attention he'll always get because of where he plays, he may always be among those more underrated defensemen... he certainly isn't likely to pull the stats often needed for Norris consideration.

personally, i was impressed with what i saw from him last season, and like Drew Doughty, was heaped with a ton of responsibility and logged major minutes on a lousy team.

Schenn played ok. He got a pass from Toronto fans for his mistakes which is very rare.

They lke to eat their players up similar to what Kings fans do when a player has a couple bad games.

Schenn is going to be a good defenceman. However, incredibly overrated. Will be at best a shutdown defenceman.

Bernier should clearly not be on this list. It's the NHL's best goalies under 21, not the AHL's best goalies. How many games did Bernier play in the NHL, 4 or 5?

The people who put this list together need an enema. Let's get a mod to lock this thread. Who started this? Oh wait...
