If nothing else I hope this goes a long way towards ownership realizing that there are more places in Ohio than Columbus!

Here you go.

The Indians and Blue Jackets have been discussing cross-promotion since last hockey season when Tribe officials arrived in Columbus to talk with Columbus Clippers executives. The Clippers, of course, are the new Class AAA affiliate of the Indians. Updated: The Jackets are believed to be trying to negotiate a similar deal with the Reds.

I've been told this alliance has absolutely nothing to do with Sports Time Ohio (STO) -- which carries the Indians -- and any possible desire in becoming a future home of the Blue Jackets. The club remains under contract with Fox Sports Ohio through the 2011-12 season.

I don't really see any downside to the Jackets and Indians and Jackets and Reds in promoting each other. Don't think it'll be especially fruitful, but given low to no costs, any tickets sold would seem to be gravy.

An alliance between Blue Jacket and the Indians?

Lets hope we can buck the trend of suckie Ohio teams...why stop at the Indians and Reds, when you have perennial losers in the Browns and Bungles. Nothing like your only major championship being from the soccer team of the state

Yeah it is pretty sad, the only great teams Ohio has are the Cavaliers and the Crew. Other than them, no one has a shot at a championship anywhere in the near future.

My family is from Northern Ohio and our visibility there is next to zero. For example the Akron Beacon Journal does not cover our games beyond a partial box score, when it isn't nothing more then the score itself. Anything that turns a little light on the Jackets up there is good for the club. If we get any news coverage or advertising from this it's good, so I don't see how we can lose. Will it sell enough seats to make us a cap rather then a budget team? Probably not. But we can use the exposure.

If we want to expand our advertising around the state, we'll have to trade a winger or 2

The team will gain notoriety up there if/when it wins. Did anyone ever see a Cavs jersey in Columbus back when the team was a total joke?

Winning>>>Marketing.

And also, I recall the ABJ actually having a couple of decent pieces on hockey a couple of years ago. Then Tom Reed got hired by the Dispatch. Seeing as newspapers are dying a very quick death, I don't think covering a hockey team is that important to them anymore.

The size and "geographic significance" of their fanbases are no small potatos either.
Or is this just about STO cable tv?
Much of this debate centers on TV stations, I don't have any comments on that due to lack of TV marketing knowledge. Is all I know is that Cleveland is a winter community, close to historical hockey country and a great sport town.

We need more Cleveland fans in the fold where snow and winter sport is expected, and the Indians need more Columbus fans; the Reds are like a black hole sucking up baseball fans not only in Ohio but the entire region.

Ohio State does NOT want any alliance-why should they.

Winning>>>Marketing.

We won more then ever last year and got little more coverage. Besides, we have 82 games next year and at least 41 at home. Winning may beat marketing but even the RedWings market.

Well to be fair the Akron Beacon Journal is actually within the Penguins marketing area, so covering the Blue Jackets as the local team would be unlikely anyway. I'm in Akron and actually get the Penguins on TV here without them being blacked out because we're within their local TV market lines.
