Signing

Marcel Goc...1 year deal...550K NHL...105K AHL

Maybe a player which takes the place of O' Reilly? Not as skilled, but yet another center

I like Goc. He could very easily turn out a Ward-like performance.

Except Goc has been utterly useless in the offensive zone for the bulk of his career. We're talking about a guy who got outproduced by a broken Mark Bell, and then by an aging Jeremy Roenick twice.

Goc is strictly a depth signing, if we are in fact signing him. If he ever gets beyond our third line, we're in serious trouble.

I"ll take your word for it and say if your right I don't understand or like this signing.

Mabye Cal really isn't gonna sign? That would suck. Develop a kid for years just to let him go.

Goc is a great faceoff man and good PK'er. He's fast and has a great skill set, he just can't score goals or setup plays. We would have kept him, but he doesn't have the grit we need, which is why we signed Nicole.

Hopefully a new location will spark up his game to the expectations everyone had on him.

OK who am I missing here for our bottom six?

Toots
Goc
Jones(him or ward on 2nd line)
Smitty
Guite
Ward( him or Jones on 2nd line)
Is it fair to say these guys are virtual locks for Bottom six?

Other possibilities

O'Reily ( Will he sign?)

Wilson ( How long till he is able to come up)

Belak

Darkhorses?

Olvecky

Eaves

Not to mention hornqvist. It just seems we have TONS of guys who can fill these spots.

Fast and useless offensively? Sounds like a replacement for Antti Pihlström.

It's official... http://www.capgeek.com

Hmm...maybe insurance for O'Reilly not being signed yet???

Ton of bottom six depth now within the organization. Will actually benefit us this season with the schedule being condensed due to the Olympic break. Several guys on the team that could be short-term solutions for a top-six spot, but still lack that true sixth top-six forward...

This is great, we have loads of guys that need to perform to make the roster and that should bring out the best in all that we have. We will likely have a forward scratch or two so these veterans are good for nothing else but a scratch that can fill in on the 4th line instead of someone like Colin Wilson.

Good signing for the fourth line. Figured we would pick him up for some reason.

Is this what we needed?

Yes. He's a better option in the bottom six than Hornqvist, O'Reilly, and possibly even Guite.

Is this what we WANTED?

No. This is likely the nail in the coffin of hope for one more top six forward, and pretty much cements the idea that it will be Jones or Ward in that spot.

But...if you can temper your disappointment with some rationality, it's a pretty good signing. Ably replaces the loss of Bonk and Nichol in terms of speed, PK, and faceoff ability...and while it's not saying much, at least he's better with the puck than Nichol or Bonk.

Bingo. He will help you on face-offs and on the penalty kill as well.

Who is going to let Poile know that he is not the GM of Milwaukee but the GM of Nashville? Every signing this summer besides Ward and Sully are two ways.

Olvecky
Eaves
Guite
Goc
Jones should be on a two-way

Milwaukee is looking great!!!

Olvecky-O'Reilly-Hornqvist
Eaves-Santorelli-Wilson
Spaling-Goc-Thuresson
Jessiman-Maki-Grant
McKenzie

Now since the Ads have been fully pimped out...lets start filling out the NASHVILLE roster

Camp starts in less than a month and already cheap quality guys like Williams, Prospal, Bertuzzi, Foster, Boynton etc...wakey wakey Poile...hit your snooze button already

Two-way deal does not automatically equal Milwaukee. It gives us flexibility, which is a great thing to have. Guys like Guite and Goc are very likely to make the team out of camp.

And if someone who starts in Milwaukee, say.. Colin Wilson, is ready before the end of the year, we'll be able to send one of them down. Our club can't afford to send one-way guys down to Milwaukee.

With losing Nichol, Bonk, Fiddler, you had to figure that we would make a signing like this. Goc is still young and still has more to prove. He will be able to compete for a spot. And he's signed for cheap and on a two-way deal. He is a cheap replacement for the bottom six.

Goc and Guite very likely will be on the fourth line in Nashville, and a guy like Eaves who has some nice offensive ability is a darkhorse as well.

Goc is also an RFA at season's end too, making this an even better deal IMO.

Ever heard of depth players? Like it or not, we need to flesh out Milwaukee's roster. That's a big part of any affiliation agreement.

Jones got a one-way deal, and O'Reilly will likely get a one-way deal. Wilson is very likely to crack the NHL roster. Goc will most likely not be in Milwaukee.

Poile is not done. We still have at least one more player to sign. It is disappointing that he's pursuing depth forwards when they would likely still be available in a week or so, but this doesn't mean we can't still sign Sykora or Lang or someone else.

so we signed Nichol all over for cheaper but lost some tenacity in the translation.

this is one of those "time will tell" signings, he could end up being great for us, and if he doesnt well, it's not like our 4th line plays more than 4 minutes per night anyway.

I think the NHL has probably seen the last of Lang

I agree Milwaukee looks great, but that line-up is way off in terms of structure. Spaling is a much better center than Santorelli. Jessiman isn't a 4th line type player and Maki isn't a center. Then again, stranger things have happened

I think he'll be with the team. He will be a good bottom line defensive minded forward and if he worked on his shot this off season could possibly score you some goals. He'll also help Sulzer adapt to the NHL as they are both German and will be playing together on the German national team in the Olympics.
