Afinogenov to Montreal?

Dunno if it's reliable... but here I go:

Quote:

Edit: English translation:

Rumors has been flying around concerning the possibility of Afinogenov landing with the Canadiens.

There is no doubt that he has talent and he has showed it in 2005-06 and 2006-07 when he produced a total of 134 points in 133 games.

However, since then, he has produced 48 points in 104, playing only 56 and 48 games during the last two seasons and he saw his rhythm of production drop.

Is he a finished player? We cannot throw the towel since he's only 29 years old, but let's say that he has a knack for forgetting his head and heart in the dressing room, sometimes at home.

Right now, he is training with Andrei Markov, in Russia, his longtime friend. Always according to rumors, the star defensemen has spoken to Bob Gainey about Afinogenov.

Is this true? We can never know but what we do know, is that the Canadiens shouldn't offer him a contract, unless he takes a paycut and he seriously wants to become the player he once were...

Do not want

Afinogenov has talent alright but it's more "globe trotter" type of talent than talent that can be useful in an hockey game.

He's also soft and quite enigmatic so no thanks.

I actually wouldn't mind if it's a rather small contract and a 1-year term.

Worst case, he blows and we bench him.

If he gets back to his early post-lockout form, major steal.

Kind of a low risk, high reward type of deal.

Anyways, that strengthens the bottom 6 with Lats-Lappy-Moen (?) as a big, physical line and good competition for the remaining 3 spots on the 4th line.

He also has a lot of speed, so he fits right in.

Say it's for 1mil/1 year. How bad could it be? He fits way better than Prospal would've anyway.

Under Jacques Martin, anyone can find their stride. I'm all for it.

No.

He is of no value to our team. We have far better wingers without the history of injury problems AND we are near the cap. Let him play somewhere else.

Oh god no, Gainey should just keep an open spot for Sergei instead, much better passer and more reliable defensively, not to mention cheaper and already signed. IMO GM needs to concentrate on getting a big offensive center. Lately i've been set on Ryan Kessler, he'd be ideal for Cammelleri and Andrei.

Tantalizing gamble but he is a bit fit on the current Habs roster. Pass.

I'd be content with super low-risk, one year deal at around 1 million.

Doubt it happens though.

I would be ecstatic if we signed him to a 1 year/1mil kind of deal.

If we get him, it will have to be a Prospal kind of deal...but I think we have enough young players to fill the holes.

I would absolutely take him to fill out our top six. Always liked the guy. At maybe one year, 1.2 million...?

My only concern would be how well he fits into Martin's system.

Cammalleri - Gomez - Gionta
Afinogenov - Plekanec - A. Kostitsyn
Latendresse - Lapierre - S. Kostitsyn
Moen - Chipchura - Stewart

A really really really fast top six, definitely faster than our 07-08 team. An extremely tough bottom six.

Well we're missing our token enigmatic Russian that's been on our roster for the past decade.

I couldn't see it happening, wouldn't mind him if he came really cheap. Would he take a large paycut though?
