Even though Subban completely outplayed him in the WJC, Hickey has the most all-around potential of the two and will be the better NHL player.

I think Hickey is closest to the NHL simply because the Kings give their young guys a strong chance in making the team whereas Montreal has 7 NHL defencemen and Weber ahead of Subban.

Hickey's play seemed to seriously regress the season after he was drafted, but he responded well after recording fewer points in 2008 than 2007 by putting up over a PPG in the post-season and then improving his totals to 16 goals scored last year. However, he seemed to be very unrealiable at the World Juniors (I realize that it is but one tournament of a few games and shouldn't determine whether or not he is a legitimate prospect) while Subban took several large steps forward over that time. In terms of defensive reliability I have no doubt in my mind that PK will continue to improve, but Hickey has him beat at this point in time. In terms of who is closer to the NHL though I would say that Subban is more likely than Hickey to get games in next season in large part because the Habs seem intent on promoting him (and they need some more offence from the blueline).

In before the "Subban can't play D and should be a forward"..oh wait, I'm already late.

Both played for Team Canada.

Hickey: 0-3-3 -3 (minus on Canada team...YIKES)
Subban: 3-6-9 +12 (leader D in pts and +/- of the whole team)

Subban progressed very well this season. I can't say the same for Hickey.

PK Subban defensive is underrated. He may be an offensive D-Man, but he progressed really well since his draft year, as he became a better all-around D-Man.

As for the question, I was in shocked when Hickey got taken 4th a couple of years ago, but he played very well this year.

It's a toss-up IMO. Comparable players in term of value.

I'd take Subban, but it's hard to say who will be a better NHL player.

Judging 2 guys on 1 tournament. Its a good thing you aren't a NHL GM cause your team would suck.

Hickey, and its not really close on this one.
Its not really close but...Subban totally outplayed Hickey on the same team...

Good reasoning!

Show me some arguments for Hickey is a better player than Subban than...

Both played on the same team and one looking like a stud and one was the worst def on the team out of their top-6.

Both played their last OHL season, Subban has been more productive and a stud defensively for Belleville.

, if we would only judge them on the last WJC this thread would be a joke, Hickey had a terrible tournament and PK was defensmen of the tournament, seriously put down your anti-Habs goggles for a second. Subban had 76 points last year while Hickey had 51, Subban is faster, has the hardest slapshot between the 2 and was named the OHL's 2nd best DEFENSIVE defensmen. Everybody here talking about Habs homers should definately start learning before posting.

Hickey was ATROCIOUS during the WJC. Anyone with half a brain that actually watched the full games knows that. Yes he was great the previous tournament but in 2009 he was almost a liability on the ice. He got overthrown by Subban and Myers as the go-to defence on that team.

Where's the poll?

I'm taking Hickey only because he's a better skater.
