he hasnt had to. until now.

this is the rangers.

when your supposed #1 centerman- whos proven nothing- is still unsigned 1 month before camp and your #2 is really a #3 and your #3 has yet to play a full month of nhl hockey and you have arnason and boyle as your #4 candidates..........

you may want to have vinny prospal consider playing center

just sayin........

i'd be ok with it under a few conditions.

1) it's mid-season

2) dubinsky/anisimov hasn't performed well with gaborik

3) he's serious about coming back to win, new yorks his first choice and he's not looking for another paycheck to fuel his pokerstars habit

at that point its ok with me. the rangers have tried w/ dubi and anisimov and since they're already thin down the middle, they get a capable center to play with gaborik w/o losing draft picks or prospects.

id rather go down that road than patrick marleau or even worse brad richards.

Dubinsky will sign his 1 year contract...

That being said, if the Rangers have to skate Prospal as our #1 center, things are going to be ugly...

Pass. But thanks.

Dubi will be signed. Dubi will be at that spot come camp. We shall see what happens after.

At this stage of the game Prospal has proven more than Dubi has, Prospal is an insurance policy. Dubs has alot to prove still.

Signing Sundin, regardless of the amount, would be the complete opposite of what we need right now. UNLEASH THE YUTES.

Three words: right hand shot

Not going to happen, especially with his asking price.

If Sundin wants to show that he isn't in it for the money anymore, then take a one year deal of around $2 million. Anything more then that, buzz off.

Speculation, of course, but worth discussing...
So worthy, in fact, that the very same topic is already being discussed 8 threads below this one. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=674529

Prospal is a stop-gap, depth signing... Plain and simple.... The Rangers are not going to displace a 22 year old with a good ceiling and lots of potential for a 34 year old 1 year rental who hasn't played the position in 8 years... Not unless Dubinsky fails miserably....

I honestly feel that developement of Dubinsky and Anisimov will make or break the future of this team

With that being said, siging Sundin for 1 year makes zero sense

we're not making a cup run this season, we need to think long term....and if for some reason, mid-season, it actually looks like it could happen and we're 1 first line center away from a cup team, then consider trading for one at the deadline with our plethora of D prospects + dubinsky or AA

Yes and my comments on this thread about Prospal @ Center is in reference to posters suggesting he SHOULD be our #1 Center....

Dubinsky is and will continue to be Plan A.

like it or not, he may be our best centerman in camp to play alongside gaby.

brandon dubinsky and the title number 1 centerman worries me more than a little.

if hes so certain to be our key pivot, why is he still unsigned.

please show me another team that is relying on a guy whos yet to sign a contract to center their first line.

he might be better right out of camp...but if its reasonably close i think Dubi still gets the job

we need to give Dubi and Gabby a nice long shot to be 100% sure whether or not its going to work...we should stick with it for a little even if theres no initial "explosion"

let them develope some chemistry...we've got five years of Gaborik and i feel we should work on developing someone who could potentially center him for all 5 of those years

additionally, he's still unsigned becasue he has no arbiration rights and he's hanging on as long as he can to get an offersheet or the rangers to give him more money...he'll be in camp...no doubts about it....we're making a bigger deal out of it than it needs to be...its august and everyones bored in hockey land

The Sundin to the Rangers ship has docked at another port. He looked all of his nearly 40 years of age last season. This guy should retire. Last summer or last December was the move to the Rangers. When the Rangers couldn't clear enough cap space to pay Sundin,he went to Vancouver. He should go back there.
