“Simon Gagne sustained a mild strain of his right groin last night while practicing with Team Canada. He was examined by Team Canada’s medical trainer and team orthopedic physician who believed that it was not a serious injury. Simon will fly back to Philadelphia today and be examined by Flyers team orthopedic physician, Peter DeLuca tomorrow afternoon.”

I hope he's just getting it out of the way early, before the season.

At least he was examined by Team Canada medical staff and not the Flyers.

Agreed, but let's hope he just shuts it down. I could care less how far Canada goes in the Olympics, I only care about the Flyers.

I love the olympics. I love the thought of The worlds best amateur athletes competing to see who is the best.

Now someone tell me what's wrong with this statement and Simon Gagne and you have the reason why I hate Olympic hockey.

Gormley talked to Gagne directly.

http://blogs.courierpostonline.com/f...-olympic-camp/

Speaking by phone from the Pengrowth Saddledome, Gagne said he felt soreness in his right hip during a fast-paced practice on Monday and will not return to the ice this week.

“For now it’s nothing serious,” Gagne said. “The pace was a little faster than I was used to this summer. I think I’ll be OK for training camp.”

....

On May 28 Gagne underwent surgery to remove a bone spur and adhesions that built up in his right hip. He was given a recovery period of four to six weeks and said he resumed skating about two weeks ago.

“It was a little tight when I was skating on my own, but the tempo here is a lot faster than the pace I set this summer. It’s faster than I expected and I’ll need to do some more rehab.”

Sounds like he took the summer off after the surgery and underestimated how fast a literal "All-Star" tryout would be. Oh well, as long as he is ok for the season.

Flyers > Team Canada as far as I'm concerned.

Well too bad you guys gave up most of your future for pronger, good luck
There is no replacement for Simon Gagne in Team Canada's camp. Gagne has amazing chemistry with Iginla and was pretty much a lock for Team Canada. He has great defensive instincts to go along with his snipage, not many "Pure" goal scorers have the defensive ability of Gagne. Even with this injury, he has a pretty solid chance to make the squad. I am sure you will enjoy seeing the Sens get destroyed by Pronger for the next five years. Nice try though...

I think Gagne was a lock for the 3rd line at minimum. Oh well. More Gags for us.

shame. he would of be an awesome addition to Team Canada.

but a full season with the Flyers is ultimely more important, i suppose.

But it IS a groin injury. The curse of early season.

Of course Gagne will make the team, he's an amazing talent. Thankfully it doesn't sound like the groin tweak is anything serious, and Simon is doing everything right. I'm sure he'll be good to go for the upcoming season.

I fixed your Pronger comment. It's not just the Sens who are going to get destroyed by him. He's a great pickup, you're going to love him on the Flyers.

I'm sure he's still a lock. They are going to pick the team based on who is playing the best in Oct-Dec. He has lots of time....

Gagne didn't need to be at camp. If he and Iginla are healthy and able, they're going and playing on the same line.

From the Flyers website: http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...id=phi-home-dl

Q: How disappointed are you?
Gagne: “A little bit. It is part of the game. But on the other side, I did talk to team Canada’s management and coaching staff before I left today and they said not to worry about it. They said they were not there to see how I was going to do. They said they knew that I had the experience of the last two Olympics and that I knew what is going on. They said for me to go back to Philly, get it checked out and have a good start to the season. On that side, I am not too disappointed. This is why I am going back to Philly to find out what I have to do to be ready for training camp.”

I apologize if this has been posted already. but the link is Gagne talking about the injury. You hate to see this happen to a guy like Gagne. I hope this doesn't linger into the season for him.
