We need Laraque. We don't have any D we don't want, as it's a very solid group. We can't take another bad, long-term contract on.

Getting rid of Laraque's contract and having a center depth consisting of: Gomez, Horcoff, Lapierre, Metropolit/Chipchura would be great.
Horcoff would bring more size and grit to our top 6, but he's overpayed by 1.5 millions. But we're kinda used to that by now.

Absolutely no way due to the length on Horc's deal.

It's not. It ends in 2015, at age 36.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Gomez and Horcoff until 13-14 season...That doesn't sound too promising especially considering their combined cap hit is 12.85M.

And again, I don't understand any trade proposal that sees us getting rid of a center.

We need to deepen our depth at that position. Upgrading is great, but unless it's a major one, it won't make us any better.
Horcoff over Plekanec isn't a huge upgrade.

Now if we can manage to bring a Horcoff type center and keep Gomez/Plek/Lappy, then it's interesting.

5.5M until 2015? Holy crap. Horcoff is a good player, but he's not worth that contract at all! 5.5M for a few years is alright (albeit ovearpid) but 5.5M for the next six years is just too much. To make it worse, he'd be 36 at the end of the contract. I don't think any team wants that contract.

Horcoff is good, would've said yes if it wasn't for his contract.

Really not bad of a trade proposal. I don't know who we could salary dump to replace a D we don't want. I guess O'byrne would be the closest thing but hes far from a dump.
Horcoff's contract is horrid though, I think MON has enough salary tied up in big contracts.

Habs fans should know better than this. As Gainey has shown, all it takes is one GM to take any contract if the player can provide something a team needs. Montreal needs a #2 center who can contribute 50-65 points while also anchoring face-off and PK duties. Horcoff can do those things and he's fairly durable and in great shape.

We already have all those characteristic in Plekanec though (50-60 points, durable). He did have a bad season last year, but I think most Habs fans are confident he'll rebound to 50-60 points.

Horcoff has size and faceoffs on pleks. 3 mill for 6 more seasons (?) is too much.

If a team needs a number one centre, then he could be traded.

Gomez was a desperate move by a desperate GM and at least Gomez has more skill/a better rep/Cup rings. Don't get me wrong. I like Horcoff but I wouldn't want his contract anywhere near my team.

nope
pleks and that 'dman' we 'don't want'
+ BGL who we actually need in a division with the leafs and B's...
not going to happen.

gainey will package pleks, halak and young forward for something better than horcoff

I'd be on board for the deal if not for the length of contract. GMs are doling out decade deals like it's going out of style. You'd think they would learn from the original offender(s): Wang/Snow in Long Isle (whoever is running that team). They'll be lucky if Dipietro doesn't need hip replacement surgery in the next few years. Horcoff has had his injury issues in the past as well.

From the Habs POV, we'd be locked in for near 13 mil a year for a pair of #2 centers. No thanks. Though I wish someone would take BGL off our hands!

Gotta appreciate the relatively realistic proposal. Not too many to find on these boards...

And that's why it won't happen. Gomez was "fine" because we had the space for it... We don't have any for Horcoff.
