Oh, I missed that Penny was waived already.

Best case scenario we get another strong arm out of the bullpen every 3 days and he helps us win the WS...then in the off season some team signs him and we get a 1st round pick and a sandwich pick.

Please god don't let his arm fall off.

No. You canonly be waived once. The only options with Penny in terms of freeing up a roster spot is DFAing him or DL.

I don't know if they're at that point with him yet. Maybe they are. I am not so certain that they won't elect to simply demote Bard for 10 days and then bring him back. He may need a mini-vacation anyway, given the way he's been throwing lately.

I'll be interested to see who the prospects are that are sent out. On SoSH, this link was posted:
http://twitter.com/NYPost_Mets/status/3539250024
that says it's 2 AA level prospects. Hopefully they meant "prospects" as in Jorge Jiminez or Richie Lentz and not prospects as in Luis Exposito or Ryan Kalish.

No, it's a trade. A waiver claim means nobody goes the other way.

Theo is going to offer him arbitration, Wagner is going to decline, the Sox will get two draft picks.

Yeah the report just surfaced today.

The scenario put forth by erfus (Bard going down) makes a lot of sense, as it allows them to keep Penny through the time when the 40-man roster kicks in.

Just heard that apparently Wagner has been dealt to the Bosox? if thats true the that should help out the pen eh? he's not the closer he was with the Stro's but i am sure he can come in handing down the stretch, and if Penny has been sent down or whatever good he's been bad

Well at least not until another team has already signed him.

I'm shocked that Pedro's is still attached. Have you heard some of the reports on the status of his shoulder?

W/R/T sending Bard down...would the K-Rod rules be any sort of an issue if he's down there past 8/31 when that kicks in. I assume not since he's been on the 25 man for the majority of the year, but I always get confused with that rule and who is/isn't eligible for the postseason roster. I know you have to be acive on 8/31 to be post season eligible, and that the exception is DL'd guys, but Im not sure how it goes for optioned guys that are healthy.

A source told the Herald that Chris Carter is one of the "prospects" going to the Mets and the other "prospect" isn't of significance.

So basically the Mets should have held on to him for the free draft picks? They can't do anything right.

guess i don't really follow baseball much these days as my son was compiling an all-star game on the x-box and he asked me "whose your 2nd baseman" and i said without thinking, "ryne sandberg."

anyway, my question is, what does the july 31st trade deadline really mean?

deals keep happening and i'd assume wagner and the SS recently acquired are eligible for post-season right?

so what/when specifically is the cutoff for acquiring players who are post-season eligible?

the players traded on or before the july 31 deadline are not subject to waivers.

That's the way I'm seeing it. Maybe Theo reminded Minaya that the Mets got Mientkiewicz for Ian Bladergroen a few years back.

In other news, I really hope the loudmouth crybaby punk Pierzynski never plays for the Red Sox. It takes quite a bit to become the most hated player in the league and we just saw a little bit of it in his first at bat.
