Filatov approached by KHL teams!

Nikita Filatov: "I had calls from KHL teams this summer and during last season. They offered a lot more money than I am making in the NHL. If I end up in the farm or on the bench, it would be time to think about KHL. But I want to break into the NHL and play."

Thank you for staying!

In all honesty, I'd be surprised if the KHL wasn't calling Filatov, or every other Russian/European player in the NHL trying to get them to jump ship.

I think that is code for: Barring some unforeseen circumstances where I'm treated like complete garbage, I'm staying over here becasue I want to play in the best league in the world.

Well, guess who just made the team?!?

(as if the timing of this news is any coincidence at all - props to Nikki's agent)

He put on 17 pounds? Wow that's a pretty significant difference. 187 lbs is just about where he needs to be, 190 to be safe.

Ouch, not good!

This shod make the Leafs fans who are still pissed we took Schenn over Filatov a little happier.

The quote you put in the first post is a little out of context, but this news is no surprise. He wants to be in the NHL though so I'm not worried at all.

He wants to play in the NHL, but that doesn't mean KHL teams won't try to pry him away. In the end it's up to Filatov to decide his future but if I where a betting man I'd say he wants to become a star on a Stanley Cup winner.

I'm sure there are some fans who would love it if Hitchcock kicked him off the ice as he did to Zherdev but I doubt Filatov will ever do anything to warrant that.

Filatov will start the season as a Columbus Blue Jacket.

This...

That about sums it up. He has the goods; he can even speak English if that's an issue with some people. There is no reason for him to fail in the NHL if handled correctly.

Key words there, with Hitch as his coach, a man who hates small players, and Europeans, it will be interesting to see if he gets ice time. Hopefully he is allowed to create offense and not turned into a defensive specialist.
Let the kid play Hitch.

Dorsett is small, Huselieus is a European and small, Hejda is European, Brassard was small, Voracek is European, Vermette isn't huge, Kris Russel is small, Klesla is European, Tyutin is European, Peca is small. Guess he hates almost all of his ****ing team.

Oh, please. Malkin's been approached by KHL teams. Ovechkin and Kovalchuk have likely been approached by KHL teams. Hell, Zherdev's been approached by KHL teams and still wants to play here in North America. Being approached means that the teams are interested, not that the player is interested.

Tax free money is always hard to pass up. I really wish the IIHF would grow some balls about the KHL's poaching of players already under contract though.
