Is the "Harlem Shuffle" really appropriate for Ward? Or is there some connection other than race? I would think there'd be some tunes that fit something about his play. Would hate to think that the impression would be that his race is what we notice about his good play. But I don't know the tune. Just not a fan of the reference.
Edit: Looking up the lyrics.... I don't think the tune is appropriate at all.
It's not me that has to be pleased one way or another. Maybe ask Ward. If he wants lyrics such as "scratch like a monkey" to represent him on the board, then fine.
I just thought with the reputation that Nashville has of being a southern city, and the south in general having a negative rep historically with regard to race, it would be good to be a bit circumspect is all. But it'd be Ward and his fans who would be the ones to either like the choice or not like it. Certainly not me. Although I am a fan. And no, I don't like it.
Of course, Harlem as a major cultural center and having many positive historical connotations is different. It's just I don't think that song is all that. But also I know it's a blues tune and wasn't originally written by the Stones.
It's just an avatar. I really like it. He's a player with 'soul'. I think it fits him perfectly!
That's cool. Obviously I'm not accusing anyone of some views other than it's a fun ref to show support of Ward. I guess initially it just went "clang" with me as I didn't see how his background or play fit.
But, seeing this photo posted by a fan of his in the minors, of Ward and his Halloween costume. Hahah. So maybe he'd embrace the tune...
Well, now that the default lineup is done, I'll begin taking requests for alternate avatars for players. I'll also take requests for "silly" avatars, which feature celebrities or TV characters. For example:
I once again want to encourage EVERYONE to use one of these avatars. If you don't see one you like, ask me for one, and if I can pull it off, I'll make one for you.
I think Sullivan with "At Last" would have been fantastic.
Legwand or Erat with "Never Gonna Give You Up" (due to ridiculous contracts)
Belak or Toots with "TNT"
