Per Pollack:

"The trade, GM Doug Wilson said in a prepared statement, shows confidence in the Sharks own prospects on the blue line and also “creates some flexibility in our team payroll for potential future transactions as the season progresses and adds two more talented players to our reserve list that can help this organization in the future.”"

The upside of this trade is some cap flexibility. I think getting draft picks in return would have been better but whatever. This trade had to happen no matter how ****** it looks on paper.

Makes it seem like Sabean and Wilson having something in common.

Patrick White is considered a bust by most Canucks fans already, and I don't know a damn thing about Rahimi, which tells me that he probably sucks. I would have accepted a 2nd round pick sooner than this trash.

the sharks got vancouvers 1st round draft pick also.

the sharks now have roughly 5.1 million in cap space available to play with.

this has to be a precursor to something else. White is a middling kind of player with no real strengths, while Raihmi will probably top out as a low pair physical d-man if he's lucky (poor man's Murray)

There's no way that Doug takes this kind of return on those two unless it's just part 1 of a 2 part process.

EDIT: I'll update the thread title once we have some real confirmation.

EDIT 2: and here it is...

Yeah, if we got vancouver's 1st, I'd be a bit happier with this. I would sign Malhotra with the cap space. We'd actually have a quite good 3rd and 4th line then.
Put Cheech back with Joe.
Marleau-Thornton-Cheechoo
Michalek-Pavelski-Clowe
Mitchell (800 k)-Malhotra (1.1 M)-Setoguchi
McGinn-Nichol-Shelly/Staubitz
Ortemeyer/Shelly

Boyle-Huskins
Blake-Vlasic
Murray-Joslin
Semenov (signed for 550 k)

I guess DW finally realized that Ottawa would not cave in to his proposal of Cheech, Ehrhoff and a 1st for Heatley.

I just thought Ehrhoff was worth a bit more, this is a great trade for Vancouver who has a STACKED blue line now.

id think this was a good trade if vancouvers first or a second was involved. salary dump for a high pick is fair i think. while lukowich isnt a bad player he alone wouldnt really fetch much on the trade market.

If Wilson has another move(s) to make, this trade could work out well for both teams. Vancouver gets more D and for a minimal price and the Sharks get.....Probably worth waiting a while before judging this trade.

Fawk I wish we would have gotten some draft picks back instead or in addition to these guys.

I am guessing that this move will make Joslin the 6th dman for the Sharks?

Please don't let this be a precursor to a Heatly deal!

A second rounder I could tolerate, but two rostered NHL players capable of playing solid NHL minutes for two guys who will likely never make it to the NHL is just unnecessary and at this point the team is in fact worse than it was last season. DW better pray Huskins can do what he thinks he can do.
