Lukowich makes 1.5, bury him in the minors, and sign Schneider as our #7?

If Schneider signs for 1 million it would be more cap friendly, only call Lukowich up if there's a major injury. Hell or sign Schneider and dump Lukowich for a 4th-7th round pick. I figure we are over the cap now, so someone making some money will be moved.

edit;

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows (14.2m)
Sammuelson-Kesler-Demitra (8.25)
Bernier-Wellwood-Raymond (4.083)
Rypien-Johnson-Hordichuk (2.475)
Hodgson (.875)

Edler-Bieksa (7)
Mitchell-Salo (7)
Erhoff-O'Brien (4.7)
Lukowich (1.5)

Luongo (6.75)
Raycroft (.5)

57.333 total, trade Lukowich for a cheaper #7, or drop Wellwood for a cheaper #13 forward with Hodgson on the 3rd line and we're fine.

Doug Wilson understands that the cap means you have to lose on deals sometimes.

Heatley to SJ is a mortal lock now.

Offense: $30.733M

Mitchell (3.5) - Edler (3.25)
Salo (3.5) - Ehrhoff (3.1)
Bieksa (3.75) - O'Brien (1.6)

Luongo (6.75)
Raycroft (0.5)

Difference: $(1.483)

Assuming Hodgson makes the team, we could be saying bye bye to Wellwood. Or if Hodgson is looking like a tweener and we need Wellwood for that support, we could waive Lukowich and replace him with Rome or Nycholat, but have to find the extra $500k elsewhere.

In otherwords, it's tight.

This is obviously a salary dump with the intention of making a big splash...probably for Heatley.

well said. He may win in the end if he gives up nothing for Heatley.

Perhaps White gets traded to Ottawa now since everyone speculates they wanted him so bad.

I just remembered a couple weeks ago Canucks and Sharks fans were having a fight who is more valuable to you'r team Burrows or Ehrhoff

Now the D won't look so bad once Salo, Bieksa and Mitchell all go down.

He's signed for 2010-11 as well. I wonder if we are seeing Willie Mitchell's replacement if the cap goes down?

Yeah this must be a deal to make room for Heatley. Luckily it's the Canucks who end up taking advantage. What a play by Gillis

There were rumours that a 3rd team needed to be involved for that Heatley deal to go through...everyone assumed it would be Montreal.

I'm wondering if Vancouver was that 3rd team and Ottawa really wanted White?

Considering Ehrhoff is nothing like Mitchell, I kind of doubt it.

Guess Schneider doesn't have to worry about that physical now.

In Gillis we trust.

The Canucks benefit from a salary dump by the Sharks. This gives Gillis some flexibility to maybe deal Lukowich for a pick or include one of our other d-men in a deal for a forward.

Nice move by Gillis and I think we'll be seeing one or two more for sure.

Yeah, it looks like they're clearing cap space for something.

True. It's a great deal for the Canucks, but it's not that completely unusual of a trade. It's not easy for teams to clear capspace without giving up assets on the cheap.

Where does this put Vancouver with respect to the cap? I'd still very much like to see Schnieder added if possible. With room to spare for Sundin still, ideally.

I can't believe someone actually give something for Patrick White, I was hoping for a 4th rounder at best for him but Gillis getting Ehrhoff out of this is unreal.

Making Gillis GM was the best move ever.

Slightly over the cap. Only way to fit in Sundin would be to either have him make very little (unlikely) or trade someone (Demitra?)

We're 1 mil over the cap, roughly...

With some wheeling and dealing we could get Schneider, but not Sundin. Unless Sundin signs for way cheap.

I'm guessing Schneider didn't pass his physical.

apparently the deal breaker was that Ottawa AND SJ wanted White.

What a great deal by Gillis... we need to make some cap moves of our own now. I would hazard to guess that Bieksa will probably be on his way out as well... lots of value out there though his contract could be a roadblock for some.

Hrmmm..... a package for a sniper coming up soon?

Interesting days ahead...

Erhoff being one of the fastest defensemen in the league really gives Vancouver another weapon 5 on 5 for puck-rushing out of the zone. Erhoff is a good passer but he really shines when he's rushing the puck so I hope we see much more of that next year.
