They have to offer him a reasonable contract though and then he would have to turn it down for them to get a 2nd.

Thanks, sorry but I don't like Soundgarden. Yea, I hate being a bay area sports fan.

only if they offer a contract and he rejects it. If he's terrible and realizes his shot at the NHL is limited, he could very well take whatever lowball offer the Sharks send his way.

Uh... wut?

There has to be something more to this, right? I mean, you take a team that had the best record in the NHL last year, and replace the veteran players with youngsters, including blowing a hole in the defense. This can't be the master plan, can it?

Something more yes, for sure, as in

Michalek, 1st, White, Moore, Stalock (or a goalie prospect we don't care for) for Ilya Kovalchuk.

Yes, I will continue to dream,

also this trade makes my tummy hurt.

Do we have any scouting reports on the two kids coming to San Jose?

Hmmm...apparently talks between San Jose and Ottawa for Heatley have gone cold. Perhaps this frees up space to sign Zherdev? Leaving some extra room for a potential Heatley deal later on? I'm just speculating. If there really is nothing more to it and DW was really seriously interested in Pat White, then you have my condolences.

Honestly, there wasn't at least a team in the East that would take Ehrhoff for free? He's not a superstar, but I still don't want to strengthen a potential playoff opponent. DW really strengthened their defense.

Everything about this trade kind of sucks. DW better pull of something brilliant. Either he's completely and utterly crazy, or he's crazy like a fox.

And apparently DW hates Germans now. Griess probably doesn't have much longer.

Moving error will be good for nabbys gaa given the number of goals that have been scored bouncing in off of him.

I was prepared to see Ehrhoff go, but i thought i'd knew the player we'd get in return...

We don't need Zherdev. We need a top 4 puck moving D. Oh yeah, we just traded one for spare parts!

I wonder if this means Cheechoo is staying?

Rahimi: Big hulking defenseman. Not at all offensive but more of a stay-at-home defenseman. Loves the bone crunching hits but often puts himself out of position to make a hit. Not fast by any means. Probably a career number 7 defenseman at best is his upside. Currently playing in the ECHL.

White: Absolute disappointment at the University of Minnesota. Decent shot, but outside of that not really good at anything. Reminds me a bit of Nathan Smith.

I totally understand freeing salary for another move, but in the same ****ing division? Are you serious?

This, initially, looks bad.

I hear Vancouver has a glut of defensemen and are over the cap. How about Sami Salo for Setoguchi? (sorry)

Actually the more and more I think about this, the more it has to be a precursor to another move. If DW wanted cap space that badly, why not just waive Cheechoo and Lukowich? Ehrhoff only makes 100k more, and his skillset is much more valuable to the Sharks than what Cheechoo can bring.

Rahimi sounds a lot like a Douglas Murray type. Bottom tier d-man that is tough to play against.

I saw White was a first rounder from only 07, while he has been disappointing at UM, what is the upside for him? There's gotta be a reason Vancouver took him in the first round.

I agree and I'm trying to use that to keep calm.

But what I don't like is the value here. SURELY our assets in this deal are worth more than theirs. Abysmal move. I really like Wilson but it's so hard to defend him here... he got hosed.

Rahimi sounds more like Semenov, and White like Cogliano with a better shot.

At this point I think you have to pencil both Joslin and Moore in on the blue line:

Boyle-Vlasic
Blake-Joslin
Murray-Huskins
Moore

What an utter crap move by DW.

Precursor to another move, but not for Heatley, for a top 4 d-man.
The Sharks have probably the best or second best top 6 in the league as is, why on earth would they want Heatley anyway?

Marleau, Thorton, Setoguchi, Clowe, Pavelski, Michalek, Cheechoo.

Great, I finally agree with something Vassa says. The world must be ending now.

This next season was supposed to be the season we win. With Nabby and Marleau gone after the season, we were supposed to have one great last shot.
