i'm sure that he would be traded before he was bought out. There must be someone out there that would take him even for a late round pick

No I don't mean Flames. I mean Oilers, the Oilers D has 4 guys that can puts points on the scoresheet. it is debatable who has the better Defense core in the NW. Didn't come here to discuss that though, was just cruising by and noticed the trade with the Sharks so I thought I would say Congrats.

I don't think the Canucks can even buy out Demitra at this point. As far as I know there's a window prior to free agency within which buyouts must be completed and the only exception is for teams who have arbitration hearings. Those teams have another window around the arbitration date within which they can buy out players.

Doesnt Lukowich Rome and Nycholat being in the minors clear up just enough cap space?

Putting points on the score sheet is less than half of a defencemans job.

Great trade no doubt about it. If a team is dumb enough to take Demitras contract off our hands I would take a 5th round pick for him at this point.

Right, because acquiring a 2nd line center who scored 69 pts is underpayment for Bieksa??? Hmmm.

As of right now here's how our defence stands points wise:

We've got three potential 40 point defencemen (Edler, Bieksa and Ehrhoff), two potential 30 point defencemen (Schneider and Salo) and one potential 20 point defencemen (Mitchell).

Don't assume Lukowich is going straight to the moose. He's a valuable defensive defenseman with a cup ring. If he outplays SOB in camp i fully expect Shane to be traded/waived.

Is that the best in the league?

Not really room for either on the team, unless someone above them gets moved.

I like O'Brien's fists, but wasn't crazy about his cap hit, and he certainly could have had a better attitude at time last season.

Listening to the Lukowich interview, he fully expects to play in Vancouver this season.

Plekz is not only coming off of a horrible season but he's a UFA at the end of the season as well. His value isn't nearly as high as Bieksa who is coming off of a solid season and has two years left on his deal.

Yea more really incredibly undersized players please.

No thanks to Plekanec. A big no thanks, especially when considering trading Bieksa.

Don't listen to that guy. He's being an ass.

Anyways thanks for your input. Always nice to hear a divisional rival give you some props.

SOB isn't going to be waived...

And IMO I think Lukowich is practically a lock to be playing for the Moose, regardless of what he thinks (barring any trades that see dman move out, obviously).

But I do think that O'Brien will not stand being a 7th dman all season, and Gillis and co. know this. So we'll see what happens...

Offensively, you're absolutely right. The oilers probably have the edge there.

This thread makes me smile.

Does this mean our offseason looks like this:

In:
2009 Draft Class
Samuelsson
Shirokov
Glass

Erhoff
Lukowich
Schneider
Nycholat
Rome

Out:
White
Rahimi
One Legged Sundin
One Eyed Ohlund
Pyatt
Cowan

Even if I am missing someone, it's still a big wow.

Apparently Gillis said cap space is fine and doesn't need any more deals? Can anyone confirm? And if so, why is it the figures we see on here never seem to match reality?

Carry 7 defensemen with Schneider being given the occaisional game off? He is 40 and coming off of shoulder surgery.

I totally agree,,dont no why people are against Lukowich.Great pick up .He brings a lot of experiance, and leadership.I do think the Mg has somthing on the go,with one of our other d-men being moved.Could anyone a Zherdev,or Kessel, being traded to us.

Yes I agree with this.

Our defensive depth went from poor to excellent in one day.

7 NHL capable dmen is the way to go, imo.
