That nhlnumbers cap number also doesn't seem to include Lisin's cap hit.

The two D holes will be filled by two rookies for a total of $1.5 million.

Dubinsky will get $2m, $2.5 max.

That leaves around $4M to be spent. If JJ is willing to sign for $3.3 or less, I definitely want him.

jagr w/ gaborik might be lethal.

jagr-prospal-gaborik
avery-dubinsky-callahan
kotalik-drury-higgins
byers/grachev-anisimov-lisin

we run 4 lines, when we need an enforcer we switch out byers/grachev or lisin and bring up brashear.

Jagr was a spectacular Ranger. I simply adored his time in blue and hoped he wouldn't leave, however, we are where we are and that's that.

So long as this organization allows the past to hang ominously over us, we won't move forward. As with Shanahan last season, making some degree of sense doesn't mean it needs to happen. We have a good group (albeit it not great) and we need to focus on that core and allow it to improve upon itself from within.

Guys, Jagr's under contract with Omsk. He's not coming back to the NHL this season. And a lot has happened since he said he wanted to finish his career as a Ranger... for starters, Tom Renney, who he got along with incredibly well and still talks to, got fired. Second, Jagr said last spring that he'd be willing to play for Mario for the league minimum if asked because he owes him his career. He also said Edmonton would be his first choice if he returned because they lobbied so hard to get him last summer and during the middle of last season.

True enough. Likely coronary failure for Jagr trying to keep up with Gaborik.

We actually have a player capable of replicating the performance of Jagr in 2005-2006 in Marian Gaborik. Let's sit back relax and enjoy the ride.

As much as I love Jagr and appreciate what he did for the Rangers, its time for this organization to move on.

This team and organization need a direction, and signing Jagr isn't going to point us anywhere, especially when our biggest needs are at defense and center.

Jags is better off playing his last season or two with the Pens make a cup run and call it a day..not saying we have no chance at a cup run but from this point in time obv the pens look better on paper

Jagr isn't coming back - if Sather & him couldn't make progress or even have a conversation with Renney still in the fold then there's no way that two years later that's changed with a new coach, a completely different team, and Jagr under contract with the KHL.

When Jaromir Jagr and the New York Rangers parted ways in early July of last year, it wasn't under the greatest of terms; Jagr wanted a multi-year deal to continue to play in New York while Sather would only offer one year. Jagr, who once said that he would like to finish his NHL career as a Ranger, packed his bags and headed over to Russia where he signed a two year/$20 million contract with Omsk Avangard of the Kontinental Hockey League.
I don't understand why this would mean that Jagr is or possibly is coming back. It just says what we all know. Jagr wanted a multi-year deal, Slats wasn't willing. Jagr wanted to finish his NHL career with NYR (which he technically did), but when the Rangers didn't want to give him the deal he wanted, he went to Russia to play in the KHL. Nothing I read there says he wants to come back.

If the article said that Jagr wants to finish his hockey career with NYR, then it'd be a different story.

Jagr is more about the money than sentimental achievements, so he's never going to be a Pen again. Unless for some reason he goes to play in the Czech league to honor his father, which may be one exception to the rule, he'll play on whatever team offers him the best business deal regardless of the league.

This should be next August speculation, and even then it's a pipe dream.

“I was thinking about it and if Mario would call me and say, ‘I’d like you to play for our team,’ I would think about it a lot,” Jagr said in a telephone interview from Moscow where the Kontinental League will hold its inaugural All-Star Game outdoors at Red Square Saturday. “I would play for the minimum salary. I would play for $350,000 just for him because I owe him my hockey life. I want to pay him back because he has made me what I am…besides my parents.”

Callahan was our best player last season, and on top of that our most consistent. Yeah, let's drop him to the 4th line so Jagr can come back and put up the same numbers Callahan would in his spot without the work ethic Cally has. Brilliant!

I thought they really could have used Jagr last season when Prucha and Fritsche where not used. This year they seem to have four good scoring right wings. Jagr is 38 or 39 years old and Gaborik takes the first line job.

Oh god, let it go

Jagr right now is probably a 50, 60 point player at best. Next year you can expect him to be an even bigger shell of himself.

Jagr was hugely skilled and very likeable, but as the team is built right now he simply won't fit in. He will look unbelievably out of place.
