Wachovia Center to be Re-Named

Courtesy of John Boruk's twitter

@CSNFlyer - I've been told The Wachovia Center will officially be re-named the Wells Fargo Center in spring of 2010.

If they are just gonna call it something....Call it the Wells Fargo Spectrum. Brings new life to the building and can always just be called the Spectrum like the old one was and still is called.

Or just the Center. Who cares about the name preceding it.

Just like how crappy a name is Susquehanna Bank Center. I still call it the Tweeter.

WTF Center sounds good to me for the Wach.

I was thinking that also... Or maybe; *The Big House* -- but kinda too long to use... But not as long as; *The House that Mr. Snider built*, or the Pens' new *The House That the Taxpayers and Casinos Built*.

The history of the baseball park where the Giants played in San Francisco:
  • Candlestick Park (1960-1995, 2008-present)
  • 3Com Park at Candlestick Point (1995-2002)
  • San Francisco Stadium at Candlestick Point (2002-2004)

It's better than the OHL's Windsor arena - the Windsor Family Credit Union complex. Fondly referred to as the "Woofsoo".

But the FU Centre was the best name in recent history.

Interesting - I see from Wikipedia that 3Com paid $900k a year to license the naming rights at that ball park. Not that much money in the scheme of things.

I don't know what Wells Fargo is paying, but if it is anything similar then it doesn't seem worth it to take a great name like the Philadelphia Spectrum, which the building could be called now, and make it the Wells Fargo Center, which sounds like an old people's home.

I believe there was a lump sum payment for naming rights when the building was getting funded during construction. Thus why we have seen: Corestates, First Union, Wachovia, and now, apparently, Wells Fargo.

Those are all bank buys.

I'll still call it the Wachovia Center. Wells Fargo sounds dumb.

If we really want profanity in the name, we could refer to it as the Wells **** O' Center.

It's still just "where the Flyers play" to me.
