Serisoly, I don't think their D is "fine" is it good enough to make the playoffs? Maybe, Just maybe. But thats on'y because of the star power you guys have up front.

You guys should target Dennis Seidenberg

Its virtually the same as the D core that took us to the SCF.

Solid career from a classy guy. Most of my memories of this guy are from when he played in Edmonton, and I remember watching the standing ovation he got when he went back there with Philly.

It's not a "bad" defensive core, really. If anything it lacks top-end, 1-2 talent. Six of those seven (maybe all seven) are solid NHL-caliber defensemen.

Phillips, Volchenkov, Schubert all the same

Kuba is better than Redden

Lee, Campoli, Picard are poor man's Meszaros, Corvo, and better than Preissing.

They aren't any worse off really. maybe a little bit

GATOR! Love him. Couldn't have a better leader. Lead the Copper and Blue for many years. Enjoy your family Jason!

Jason Smith is a warrior and this makes me a little sad to hear. Was an awesome leader in Edmonton. I have met him personally on a number of occasions and he is just a super guy. Enjoy your retirement Jason Smith!

First of all, Redden was terrible after 05-06. Second of all, implying Chara was on SCF team =

Our defense is merely headless. A 50 point offensive D-man would make all the difference. Then everybody could slot in just perfectly into:

1)
2) Kuba (1st PP, 2nd PK)
3) Phillips (1st PK)
4) Volchenkov (1st PK)
5) B.Lee (2nd PP, 2nd PK)
6) Campoli (2nd PP)
7) Picard
8) Schubert

Instead, I think there's a decent probability that you see Alfredsson or Kovalev man the right point on the 1st PP.

Redden sucked when he was with us too. Not sure why people think otherwise. His demise started at the start of the 2006-2007 season and is still going.

Chara wasn't on the 06-07 Cup Finals team. Redden's career may have taken the biggest hit during the first half of that season when he spent the first 40 games trying to play through a preseason groin injury and could barely skate in the first half.

It might be around the same calibre of D that got them to the Finals in 2007, but that calibre of D isn't good enough anymore.
