MoDo have started the season surprisingly bad, currently in last place with only 19 points in 20 games (including tonight's 5-1 victory against Brynäs, the first regulation time win on the road this season). Will be interesting to see what Forsberg and Näslund can do, plus Sundström when he comes back from the injury. And various media sources also say it's very likely that Dan Hinote will sign for the team real soon, plus possibly one or two additional (yet non-named) players.
Will be interesting to see how this affects the team as a whole, will the players who have underachieved so far step up and fight for a spot on the roster, or fall back even more and unconsciously think that everything will be okay because these big names will do it all? Hopefully the sooner, that the addition of these guys will give the whole team an energy boost.
Now the official site (www.modohockey.se) has finally added an English-language sub-category on the message board, so if you have any particular questions or just want to chat with MoDo fans in general, feel free to sign up and post away. Here's a direct link to the English sub-category.
For those interested in a site about MoDo Hockey in English, here is one. Too bad the official sites of Swedish teams don't have versions in English as well, that shouldn't be too hard to do, you would think.
Just wanted to let everyone know that Jack has added some more entries to his blog about MoDo since last time I mentioned the blog here. So go ahead and check it out, and fear not all you Anglophones out there, it's written in English as the author is Canadian, so no need for Google translations...
Modo are at this moment logging two of least wanted streaks in SEL history: 1) Most games in a row without scoring: 4 games. 2) Most playing time without scoring: 263min 37sec. And both streaks are ongoing after the 1st period of tonights game. Whats going on with Modo? Their lineup is decent and they have no injured players, apart from some junior, correct me if Im wrong.
And there both record streaks ended. The new record is 266min 8sec without scoring. Now Modo can focus on ending their losing streak instead.
..or extending it?
Yeah, they've been underperforming lately and it's actually hard to see why. They've got an excellent first line and what I've seen of Madsen-Ritchie-Forsberg was downright impressive too. Dimitrakos isn't really living up to his name..or salary..but other than him there isn't really a weak link in the line-up in my opinion. It's a team that's very easy to like, perhaps the most physical in the league but never dirty like so many others. Umm..think Värmland specifically..
As a whole, Svartvadet wasn't even that good in the 06/07 season, and it's only gone downhill from there. I think our aged core should have started thinking about stepping down back when Wernblom quit, and left room for some youthful enthusiasm. It almost seems as if being 'the eternal nr 2' was the only thing that kept Modo going for all these years, because after we actually won the title in 06/07 everyone has looked apathetic on the ice for three straight years. If it weren't for the 'life support' provided by Näslund and Forsberg last season we would be in AS right now, but I guess we'll draw our last breath as an elite club this year instead.
For those of you who got access to the Eurosport network, they sent a team (consisting of journalist Jez Buxton, cameraman Thomas Lepage and producer Guillaume Boucheron) to Örnsköldsvik to make a one-hour documentary about MoDo a few days ago. The program will feature interviews with Anders Hedberg, Peter Forsberg and Markus Näslund, some clips from the home game against Skellefteå, a visit to the team's former arena Kempehallen and an outdoor rink (where Näslund and the Sedin twins began their careers) and a youth tournament among other things. The program is set to be aired on March 3 in Europe, other parts of the world get the program a bit later.
A reminder about the Eurosport program mentioned in the above post. It'll be aired on Eurosport 2 on March 3 at 20:00 CET. Then a couple reruns, first on March 9 at 18:00 CET and the second rerun on March 10 at 19:00 CET.
